Interview: Catching Up With Brazzers Star Cherie DeVille
Cherie DeVille‘s storied career has begun another chapter, one whose first page is emblazoned with the famous Brazzers logo! She recently signed an exclusive contract with the popular studio. In this new interview, she chats about her collaboration with Brazzers and much more.
How did your new Brazzers contract come about?
Well, I just feel blessed! How did it come about? Sheer luck! [Laughs] No, I’ve been honestly wanting — and I’ve been pretty public about it — this Brazzers contract since I first started in porn. My first several boy/girl scenes, I was contracted with Brazzers, and I work with them frequently. They are one of my absolute favorite companies. And yeah, I’ve been sort of putting that bug in their ear, saying, “You know, if you ever needed anyone else to be contracted . . . ” I am so shameless! [Laughs] So, yeah, how did I get it? I’m just lucky enough that their fans like me and my analytics must have been good, and I always have enjoyed working for them. Yeah, just glad to be chosen!
Brazzers is known for a humorous, larger-than-life style. What’s been your favorite Brazzers scenario?
So many! So many of the most hilarious amazing things I’ve done for Brazzers — I was Hillary Clinton for them in a series. My first five shoots of my career were with them, one of which being “Dr. Spankingcock,” where I got to play a deranged nurse. I had so many opportunities. I got to be on a fake game show for them. So many amazing, amazing scenes. Their writers are great. They’re always open to new ideas. And one great thing about this contract is I get input. Well, we’ve always gotten input, but I get more input now. I get to really create some of the themes for the movies that I’m in. It’s been really exciting!
What are the pros and cons of being under contract versus being independent?
I would say the only con is that I don’t get to see all of my friends anymore . . . being all of the wonderful directors and producers and videographers that I’ve worked with over all these years for all the companies. Yeah, other than [seeing them at] the parties, I’m really going to miss everybody. I’ve loved some of my collaborations with so many of these companies over the years, not just professional relationships but personal relationships. So I would say that’s the biggest con. The pros: I get to choose my talent, choose my script. I also get the advertising of one of the biggest companies in porn, which is great for my brand. They’re an amazing company. They’re one of the safest, most conscientious, and talent-forward companies that there are, so it was really a no-brainer when they asked me to contract. Way more pros than cons!
You’re known for going the extra mile on custom content. What have been some of the most interesting recent custom requests?
So many! I get everything from just masturbating in a sexual fantasy saying the member’s name . . . I get a lot of dick ratings — that’s been really popular lately. And then of course, the truly creative customs that I get. Some of my favorite things to do is take a script that a lot of people — because they are sexual to the customer — to take a script that a lot of people would find non-sexual, like putting miniature people in a bowl of milk and eating them, and making it sexual. [Listen to our hour-long Cherie DeVille podcast interview for more on this story.] Trying to find out why the customer sexualizes this content, whether you’re doing a scene where you’re humiliating them fully clothed, whether you’re doing something verbally, physically — it’s just super interesting to me to learn more about the full gamut of human sexuality. You know, I thought I was well-versed and open-minded when I started porn. I thought that I knew a lot about different fetishes, and I thought that I had explored a lot, but I have not. I am learning new things every day about beautiful, amazing sexual human beings, and it’s fascinating. I adore custom content.
What did you learn about yourself and the industry during the past year’s pandemic?
Oh, my god! What did I learn about myself? I’m more of an extrovert than I even thought I was. I think I literally need people to be happy. It was a tough year for me. I did a lot over Zoom with family and friends that kept me going. I have a very small four-person quarantine bubble, thank god, with my partner and two of our best friends. And what did I learn about the industry? Honestly, the pandemic almost came like a perfect storm. You know, the internet and the ability to sell our content personally — and I mean “our” as the model’s content — on the internet was going up and up and up. And most of us were still practicing in the old-school model that we came in with. I’ve been in 10 years. And when I came in, you got work if you were well liked by companies and directors. And later on, you got work if you had good analytics. And then those of us that were lucky enough to get in during the years when the companies spent all those advertising dollars building our brands for us, those of us who were in that position of having a brand that had been created for us were able during the pandemic to really understand how well we could do on our own. Not everyone, but people like myself were not as boldly going for the online market as I could have been, because I was still really stuck in the old porn model, so it was almost like forcing us to take that leap of faith. And I feel like when a lot of us did that, myself included, we realized the power of the brands that these companies had built for us and all of the different ways we were able to monetize that. And that was really pretty amazing.
Tell us about social media. What’s the best platform for performers?
That is a nuanced question! The safest platform for performers is Twitter, at the moment. Things change all the time, but I do drive a lot of my traffic with my Instagram. It’s just a much trickier platform to figure out what’s going on. They have ever-changing rules. They’re very vague. You can feel like you’re following the terms of service and you’re not. And the rules seem to apply very differently to literally every person, so that’s a tricky one. So the best platform? That’s tough. What is best? Instagram seems to drive more traffic, but Twitter is safer, so I think I’ll say Twitter is best.
Do you keep all the awards on display in your house? Do you have a favorite?
I sort of do! They’re on my bookcase as bookends. So I have them intermittently smooshing books together. But I do love them very much! My favorite is — it’s crazy, because it’s probably — I don’t want to say the least prestigious award, but it’s certainly not the most prestigious award I have, which is Most Outrageous Sex Scene with Michael Vegas [from Future Darkly: The Complete Second Season]. It is my favorite! That day was one of my favorite days ever, and I’m just so proud of that movie.
If you had to sum up the sexual side of yourself in one word, what would it be, and why?
At least in my professional life, that word would be “cougar,” because I think that word represents a lot of who Cherie DeVille is: aggressive, sexual, almost predatory. Yeah, I love the word “cougar”! It really to me means a super-empowered older woman who’s just ready to live her best sex life.
What are your plans for 2021 and beyond?
Every single year, I just feel blessed to still be in this industry and to have one more year of success, and to have one more year where I can make my living doing this. So my plans for 2021 and beyond are to not drop the ball! Let’s keep this going!
