Porn 101: Why Is Brazzers Called Brazzers?

As famous as the Brazzers brand is, it does pose one obvious question: what on earth is a “Brazzer” and why did the company use that term as its name? We decided to dig a little deeper.
According to The Concise New Partridge Dictionary of Slang and Unconventional English, the word “brazzer” (and its alternate spelling of “brasser”) is an Irish slang term for “a female of dubious sexual morals.” Seems like it could fit! Even so, according to a 2011 NY Mag profile of Brazzers, this unusual slang word was not the original inspiration for the studio’s name. Writer Benjamin Wallace explains: “Several of the founders were of Middle Eastern extraction, and the name was their private joke, a throaty immigrant-Arabonics version of ‘brothers.'” So, there you have it! From an obscure joke among a few enterprising young businessmen to a studio name that has become known the world over.
