Laura Ropes Interview: Knots and Kinks
Far from being tied down by convention, Laura Ropes is redefining what it means to bring raw sensuality to the adult industry. In this new blog interview, Laura covers her journey into the industry, shooting a shibari scene with Miss Estigia, how working with Irina Vega as a director shaped her as a performer, and much more.
Adult Empire: Tell us what working with ropes with Miss Estigia in Karada Play was like.
Laura Ropes: Working with Miss Estigia is always a pleasure. She’s such a talented performer, especially when it comes to dominating her, everything just seems to come so easily. We were so lucky to have Scarlatana, a shibari artist who tied our rope harnesses in the most beautiful and sensual way, but not restricting us too much so we’d be able to do all sorts of things. Irina Vega, the director of Karada Play also had a huge part in the film behind the camera, since anything I shoot with her is always elevated to way higher levels and looks amazing.
Tell us about shooting your interview/solo scene Meet Laura Ropes.
That’s a very memorable shoot and the one that started it all. Irina Vega, the director of this particular shoot, was the person who taught me everything I needed to know when starting out in the industry, and she invited me to participate in her “Meet the Performers” series. I answered a short interview and then got to masturbate on camera the way I’d do it at home. Everything was super comfortable and I felt safe at all moments. I’d say that experience reassured me that this was the correct path. It’s also worth mentioning it happened on my birthday! And from that day onwards I aim to shoot at least a video every birthday, as it’s become sort of a tradition.
What was it like to film your behind-the-scenes clip with Miss Estigia for Karada Play BTS?
This was a very nice addition to the usual shoot. Irina Vega is very vocal about showcasing how porn really is lived from inside to the public, and this was a perfect way. We filmed everything in the consent chat, where we discussed practices, preferences, limits and chose from a huge selection of toys. The outtakes from the film were also added, and although I don’t want to spoil them for any viewers, they’re very very funny.
What is your favorite type of content to film?
I’d say I like almost everything I film, but if I had to choose, I’d say sensual lesbian scenes with a slight kinky twist are the ones I enjoy the most. It’s usually super fun to shoot and I almost never have to perform any of the emotions I show in those, so it’s all pretty much 100% real, and that takes a lot of stress out of the performance.
What did you do before you joined the industry?
I’ve worked and studied Biotechnology and Microbiology pretty much my whole life. I really really like those still, but I view them more as a hobby now, seeking learning for fun more than for work. I do hope one day I’ll find a way to marry porn and science together, perhaps in a sciencey shoot in a laboratory? (Honestly I think every Scientist has had that fantasy at some point).
What made you want to join the porn business?
I’d always felt a drive towards sexuality and showcasing it to the world. At one point in time I felt extremely not valued at my job, so it felt like it was time to take a leap, and I’m so glad I did. I might not be the richest or most famous actress in the industry, but no job has filled my soul as much as this.
What’s a fun fact about yourself?
I have a lot of random facts about me, but the coolest might be that my body can do some weird things. One is I can pretty much vibrate my hands to a near-vibrator level for a bit, but probably not long enough for a whole video.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose & why?
Oh that’s a difficult one. As I travel more and more, I find new places I love, but if I had to pick, it’d either be London or Edinburgh. London I absolutely love as it has everything I might want or need, plus I find English to be a beautifully sounding language and I love getting to use it. And Edinburgh is just so beautiful, and I do love cold weather so I’d fit right in. I do also have to say, Scottish accents get me very horny in no time.
What’s your favorite holiday?
I would have to say none actually. While I do celebrate holidays, I kind of never notice, as I essentially don’t feel like they’re different from any other days.
What do you like most about being a pornstar?
Freedom and community. I’m able to forge my calendar mostly the way I want to and travel to events and new places very often. And the people in the industry and co-performers are amazingly nice people that I’ve come to cherish so much.
What advice would you give someone who would like to join the industry?
I’d say ask yourself the question “Why do I want to be in this industry?”. I feel like there are a lot of answers, but if your answer is “to fuck hot people and get lots of money”, you might not be taking it seriously enough. But if your answer is driven by passion to create and make something amazing, go ahead, you’ll most likely find what you’re looking for!
