Serenity Cox Interview: From ER Nurse to Pornstar
Some stars begin in porn at 18 and grow into the MILF role. Others forge different careers in their twenties before turning to porn at just the point they are entering MILF-dom. In search of exciting new challenges, Serenity Cox chose this second path. It’s a telling indicator of her talents that her very first movie on Adult Empire (Women and Boys Vol. 1) features Cox in a solo cover. Cox’s new Adult Empire interview covers her pre-porn days as a nurse, her industry origin story, her collaborations with major directors, her life off the set, and more.
Adult Empire: Tell us a little bit about your background and life before you were in the industry.
Serenity Cox: Prior to the adult industry I worked as an ER Nurse for 16 years at a central Toronto trauma centre, a career I loved and continue to hold close to my heart. I never predicted I would leave the profession, and I balanced both worlds successfully and enjoyably for a few years. However at the start of 2024 some exciting opportunities arose that I was compelled to explore and I decided to focus on the adult industry full time . . . at least for the time being.
According to IAFD, you were born in Toronto. What is the most quintessentially Canadian thing about you?
Everything. I am a living Canadian stereotype, and I am sure anyone who meets me in the industry would agree. For example I am currently answering these questions while sitting on the porch of a secluded wooden cabin deep in the Ontario wilderness watching a campfire slowly burn. This could literally be the start of a Vixen scene, it’s only missing the arrival of a muscular lost lumberjack.
How did you get into the adult industry?
My husband and I started filming and documenting our sexual adventures when we began a new journey together exploring the hotwife dynamic. The footage was initially for our own enjoyment but soon we began sharing clips on Fetlife, and later on Pornhub to reach a broader audience as we loved the excitement and feedback from viewers. When we uploaded the first videos our goal wasn’t to make money (in fact we had no idea how lucrative the amateur industry could be) or to become “famous” but to share our fun sexy adventures with others. Before I knew it our Pornhub channel had a million views, 10 million views, 100 million views, half a billion views… and it just kept going. Suddenly I was winning Pornhub Awards, nominated for an AVN Award, and most recently signing an exclusive contract with Vixen to star in scenes alongside their biggest stars. I still find the whole thing surreal.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
For me, Serenity defines the hotwife lifestyle in one word… peaceful with no drama and maximum pleasure. And Cox, well, no giant leap of imagination needed there.
How did your Vixen Media Group contract come about?
To be honest, making the leap from an amateur creator to the professional scene was never something I had considered previously (however, amateur success was never the plan either), but when Vixen reached out and said they were interested in shooting with me for MILFY, it just felt right. Being offered the contract came completely out of the blue for me. At that point I had only shot three scenes for MILFY and I was about to jet off to begin filming their feature American MILF. It was incredibly reassuring as it felt the team valued my work and contributions as much as I valued working with them.
Talk about working with Vixen’s directors (such as Julia Grandi and Kayden Kross).
I mean, what can I say. To have Kayden Kross direct my first ever professional scene and Julia Grandi to direct my second, I couldn’t have asked for a better start to a professional career. These are two iconic female directors. I learned so much from them both, even things as simple as where I should be looking or what I should be doing with my hands, my posture, all the while encouraging me to let my own personality shine through. Their passion for creating beautiful fantasy scenes was evident and I felt honoured to be part of both directors’ work.
Directors like Grandi and Kross started out as performers. From your perspective, do such directors have a different directorial style from ones who don’t have a background as porn performers?
As I mentioned previously, I haven’t worked with many directors so it’s difficult to compare. But both Grandi and Kross share in common their warmth and respect toward the performers. Maybe they’re more sensitive to the comfort of performers because of their backgrounds but I can say without doubt that I never felt the least bit uncomfortable, and always felt completely seen and heard by both directors while on set.
Could you envision yourself someday branching out into directing?
While I don’t see myself branching out into directing I would love to still be involved with the adult industry even when I’ve stopped creating my own content. I like the idea of being part of something that helps de-stigmatize the industry and makes it a fun and positive experience for everyone involved. What that looks like as a career I don’t yet know but this path has been full of surprises and I know there are more unexpected doors to be opened along the way.
Tell us a little bit about your experience shooting your scene in Women and Boys Vol. 1.
Not only was this my first scene for Vixen, this was my first professional shoot in general. That being said, I was a touch apprehensive but both my scene partners Ken and Dan were amazing and put me at ease instantly. I honestly couldn’t have wished for a better team (or a better cock, have you seen that thing?) for my first time. I am super proud of how this scene turned out, and even more proud of how well it continues to perform on MILFY.com, at the time of writing this it is ranked the number one scene on the channel.
When did you find out you’d be featured on that movie’s cover? What was your reaction?
It was actually via X when MILFY shared a link to Adult Empire showing their latest releases and I was absolutely ecstatic. Though I would have been just as ecstatic to have one of my scenes featured in a movie but to appear on the cover of my first was next level. I know what all my friends will be getting for Christmas this year.
What excited you most about the the American MILF project?
It really was a dream project. I said yes to being involved in MILFY’s first feature before even reading the script or knowing who my co-stars would be. This is how much I trust in Kayden Kross’s vision. When I learned I would be starring alongside these legends of the industry both past and present it blew my mind. Then they sent me the script and the style was like nothing I’ve ever seen before in adult films. I was in love with the entire project right from the get go.
What qualities do you yourself find sexy?
Beyond physical attractiveness, I find self confidence sexy, while still being able to laugh at yourself a little. I also melt for a really good kisser.
Tell us about your attitude toward the term “MILF.” Is it something you fully embrace? What is the essence of a great porn MILF?
In my own content I have never labelled myself as a MILF or used the term, mostly because of my own misconception of what it represented. It wasn’t until I was introduced to the MILFY channel and their modern description of “strong, confident women at their sexual peak” that it hit me… it was about empowering mature women to enjoy and celebrate their sexuality. This is the message I’ve always tried to portray with my own work so if that’s what a MILF is I love being a MILF!
Why do you think MILFs remain such a consistently popular porn theme?
Again I believe it’s less about the role of a mother figure being fantasized about and more about the older experienced woman as a teacher or guide to a man’s sexual awakening. And when you search for MILF porn that’s what comes up. My perspective comes mainly from the messages I receive from viewers but I find its popularity is a combination of young men who fantasize about the older experienced woman and also older men who just want to watch women their own age in porn.
When it comes to other porn MILFs, do you have a collegial/friendly relationship, or is there a sense of competition?
In my limited experience, I have never encountered any sense of MILF competition. The most interaction I’ve had with other porn MILFs was during the American MILF shoot and all the women were incredibly supportive and encouraging to one another. I love messaging them when their scenes come out and giving positive ratings to their episodes. It feels good to bring one another up.
Is there any part of you that wishes you started your porn career earlier in your life?
I’ve asked myself this question before but the truth is my life is exactly how I want it to be and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I am equally as proud of the work I did in healthcare as I am of my work promoting sexual positivity through adult content. This career wouldn’t have felt right in my younger years. It’s because of the journey my husband and I started together that this exciting path of exploration and opportunities unfolded so organically.
What are your interests, hobbies, and passions off the set?
I enjoy keeping active in any way possible, most often running and cycling, and obviously I love creating my own amateur content alongside my husband. But outside of that my passion still lies very much within healthcare. While I am taking some time away from the 12 hour shifts in ER I do continue to volunteer at a Women’s Sexual Health Clinic in my spare time. After 16 years in healthcare, it’s not something I am ready to give up completely.
What’s next for Serenity Cox?
For my professional career, with my recent signing there will hopefully be plenty more Vixen scenes coming and it’s a personal dream of mine to appear across all their channels at least once. Along with that, I will continue to create the hotwife content I love with my husband on my own platforms.
