Victoria Voxxx interview topics and transcript

Over the course of a conversation with Nicole Chappelle, Victoria Voxxx covers the following topics and more (select dropdown arrow for highlights):

On music being a stress reliever

“It’s definitely a release. Every time I get on stage, I get to know myself a little bit better, and that’s what’s really addicting about it. It’s one of the fastest ways to expose yourself and get to know yourself and find out what you really like about yourself and find out very quickly what you need to work on in front of everybody.”

On becoming a stripper

“My plan was to move to Vegas with my writing degree. I’m gonna go move to Vegas, and I’m gonna dance all night and have all of my weekdays and other time to do music. So I was going to come here and be a stripper. Okay? Never stripped before, never stepped foot in the strip club before,  don’t know what I’m thinking that I can go and do this job. And I’m so into the plan that I’ moved to Vegas from Kansas. I’m a Midwest girl through and through. My college was in Kansas. Who am I to think I’m gonna move to Vegas and all of a sudden do a dance and a big movie? Yeah, it was insane. It was really pivotal for me. It was the first time I was making a step in the direction of the person that I closely relate to that is not the person my parents raised.”

Her character in Alive and how they differ

“My character was very confident, very sure of herself. She knew that if she left, if she went away from the people that she surrounded herself with and the life that she surrounded herself with, she was going to make it. She took her songs, she took her guitars, she hit the road, and she went to pursue what she knew was inevitably going to happen for her. That ain’t me. I left and I was scared shitless. I came to Vegas, I didn’t know, I just kind of had an idea of what I was gonna do. I joined a little shitty band here and there and played bass for a couple of years, because I didn’t know if I could be a singer.”

On writing the main song for the movie

“I’m not saying that’s something Victoria wrote. That’s something my character wrote. That’s something Victoria feels and something my character feels. And that’s why I knew it was good, it was going to work because it was authentic, it was appropriate for the character. It made me feel good, and so I knew it would make my character feel good. And as crazy as it is, sometimes I try to think of my characters as real people and if she would like it, for the same reasons that I’m liking it, then no matter how simplistic the song is, it’s perfect. Right? And, and so I wrote it, I didn’t think about it twice. I went into the studio with Ricky’s blessing and we recorded it.”

On merging her two creative worlds

“That’s when I’m happy for the long feature days because there’s so much time during the day for me to go from this very introspective, kind of vulnerable place. Having to express myself and be emotional, be transparent, be an eyeball to the camera and let them see inside.”

Her favorite day of filming

“Oh man, that’s a tough one. I’m gonna have to say the last day was probably my favorite just because we were all really tired, we were facing issues with LA traffic. We were facing issues with, you know, just just finishing the movie. And everybody was so like, hands in team. And we were just like, nothing is gonna stop us from finishing this movie and being proud of this movie.”

What she hopes fans will take away from the movie

“I hope so much that my fans watch this movie and they understand how special the people in this industry are because if there’s one thing that I could change, it’s how people perceive us as not real actors or real artists…They make it normal to see people having sex throughout their journey, which is the most normal thing there’s ever been.”
