Cherie DeVille Interview: Star Co-Host of the 2024 XBIZ Awards

Cherie DeVille is one of the industry’s leading stars and has had the MILF game on lock for years. She’s incredibly intelligent, humble, hilarious, and so genuine that you have no choice but to fall in love with her. Her catalog speaks for itself and as it continues to grow so does her status among her fans and peers. We had the privilege of speaking with her on the phone to discuss her upcoming gig as co-host of the 2024 XBIZ Awards and had the most amazing conversation. Enjoy!

Adult Empire: Hi Cherie! It’s so good to talk to you. How are you doing?

Cherie DeVille: I’m really really good. Just trying to like wrap up the last few things before the holidays.

I totally understand, we’re all in the same boat. Do you still have a lot of running around to do after this?

This is my last thing. I did my little podcast, I got this interview, and then home, dinner, and massage.

That sounds relaxing. We wanted to talk with you about hosting XBIZ this year with Emma Rose.

Emma rules! I’m so excited. I’m stoked. I can’t wait. I’m so oh my god. When Mo called me I just like oh my God! I probably burst one of his eardrums because I just started like screaming and running around my house. I am so excited! I was like, out of my mind!

That is exciting! Do you know Emma?

No, but I’ve sort of cyber stalked her a little bit. Seems like she’s been doing so so so many big things this year. She has that new podcast on Vikings with Angela White. Her social media is always so on point. She’s one of the girls that I feel like whenever I hear her in interviews, or podcasts, she’s equal parts funny and intelligent. I think it’s going to be really, really, really fun and easy to do this with her. So I’m super excited.

You’re right, she has been blowing up this year! So what type of prep work goes into CO hosting an award show so

Yes, her career has been great, no doubt, but I’ve just really noticed are a lot more in the last year or so. Well, since I don’t have the script yet the only prep work I’ve been doing is the most fun type, which is choosing my dress. So I have two dresses. I don’t want to like, do too many spoilers, but the only criterion that they gave me is that they had to be gold. So that’s the only spoiler I’m giving. And I’m doing a costume change midway through. I’m a girly girl, and I get pretty fucking excited about the dresses. And they are both amazing! I can’t wait to see what Emma is going to wear.

You guys are gonna look awesome together on stage. What’s your favorite part about the award shows?

Honestly, I feel like, it’s just really beautiful. You know, a lot of society doesn’t recognize what we do as film, art, or work even. And so we’ve kind of as an industry taken upon ourselves to celebrate it, to celebrate ourselves and to celebrate our films. So getting everyone together, seeing everybody on these, you know, at these conventions, and at these award shows, builds a great sense of community. it’s fantastic, celebrating us, you know, saying look, we worked hard and we had a great year and here’s all of these categories and all of these nominees that have really crushed the game and I think it is important to have that pat on the back, those affirmations that we can give ourselves even if society is not going to give them to us. So I think for me, that’s one of the most joyful things about awards and award season.

I totally agree with you. It’s always important to sit back and just self-examine and give yourself a little credit.

Exactly. Like, I did a great job this year, and just because everyone doesn’t think of this as an art form I do and I love it! In the bigger picture, the adult industry is always cutting edge. It’s cutting edge of pop culture, it’s cutting edge in technology, it’s always evolving. It’s always changing, and I feel like porn kind of crushes things earlier than a lot of other parts of society. We definitely include all different genders and all different kinds of people when the rest of the world is still thumbing their nose up at certain things.

Would you agree that you guys don’t get enough credit for changing thought and perception in mainstream society?

Well, yeah, because regardless of what we do people are watching porn. And so whether or not we’re just like saying it out loud on a soapbox or creating beautiful content that is more inclusive, our work changes the social dialogue because it becomes normalized.

Is there any particular like category or anything that you’re looking forward to the most?

Oh, that’s an excellent question. There’s a lot of good categories. You know, the top performer categories in a variety of niches and genres, which films are the best best actor Best Actress. I don’t know. Really good question. I don’t think I have a favorite. It’s almost impossible to choose, especially this year, I feel like there’s so many good nominees. Like you can make a case for everyone. And I always say this, and I actually mean it, even though it’s a little bit cliche. It is such an honor just to be nominated! I mean, after that, like, who wins and who doesn’t really isn’t on your mind. You’re happy just like being there and being with peers who notice that you did a good job this year is really, really special.

What’s that atmosphere like? What does it feel like walking in?

You know, I’m older, and that great, but I think the energy of the younger performers and the energy of the older performers, at least from what I’ve noticed, tends to be a little different. I feel like the older performers are more celebratory and more supportive of each other. Not all but some of the younger performers seem to be a little more maybe competitive, or take winning or losing to heart a little more. So I feel like the spirit of the older performers is a little more in line with what I like. No matter who wins or loses, really enjoying the celebration is the best part.

That’s interesting, I’ve never thought about that. Has that always been the case or do you think it’s something that’s come up now because of things like social media?

I’ve been in the industry for 12 years and I’ve never felt a competitive vibe with the other MILF performers. Where I’ve heard so many stories about all kinds of different types of competitive atmospheres and some of the other categories.

I know something that people always want to know is what is it like backstage? Is it hectic with lots of people running around and directing you to go here or there?

Well, the few times I’ve been lucky enough to win something I’ve been so emotionally overwhelmed that everything is almost like a blur. Like, you win your award on stage, then you go backstage, they take a bunch of photos of you, and sometimes you do a quick interview, then you’re kind of whisked here and it does feel very busy with very high energy and it’s surreal. There’s probably more going on backstage than I even realized. This will be the first year where I’m really an integral part of the show itself instead maybe presenting an award or being lucky enough to win something and then being whisked back to my seat.

When you won Performer of the Year did you feel like you got to enjoy it in the moment?

I didn’t even know I was up for that award! I was watching Casey Calvert up there give her beautiful speech and I’m like, wow, I wonder who won? Whoever it is sounds really great. Then I heard my name, and the whole thing is on video because my friend was filming me. I was in the middle of saying something to my partner, and then you could see the genuine “what?” come across my face. It didn’t sink in really until after I’d gotten off the stage. You know, even the times I was up for MILF performer and I didn’t think I was going to win, I at least knew it was a possibility. This just blew my mind!

That is maybe the most awesome winning story that I’ve heard. What did you do afterwards

I was with my best friend, Dani Daniels, and a few other people. We got some food, chatted in her suite, and then I went home. It was probably like two o’clock in the morning and I am an early bird, so I was exhausted.

So that was like late night for you then?

That was really late night for me. I’m not saying I never drink alcohol, but it’s rare. I’m not really a drinker, I’m not really a late night person, so I feel like over that next week, I absorbed it more and you want to know something funny? They give you a trophy like it’s the real trophy, but it’s just a prop. It’s not the one with your name on it. You’re supposed to get your appropriate trophy backstage. I held on to that thing, like my life depended on it, and I stole it! I stole it accidentally and brought it home. The next morning I looked at it and I like shame texted Mo and I’m like, confession time.

Oh my goodness, that is hilarious! They should just let you keep both of them.

I was very embarrassed when I realized that I was so excited about this trophy I clutched it so hard and took the wrong one.

Are you are you nervous about hosting?

I’m exactly equal parts unbelievably excited, and unbelievably nervous. Just, you know, being up on stage with that much responsibility in front of all of my peers. I really, really, really want to do a good job and have everything run smoothly. So there’s always like, stage fright, I guess.

I definitely understand because it’s such a big deal.

It’s definitely a big deal for me. In my whole career, I never imagined that I would have the honor of not just winning an award. I mean, winning any award would be a career goal, but getting to host the show is just still completely surreal to me.

Do you realize how influential you are in the industry?

Okay, okay, I’ve been working on getting better at like, taking compliments and feeling those compliments genuinely in my heart. And so I do really appreciate it when you or other people say that I’m really influential but there’s also this like shyness that comes out and also feeling like I don’t know, equal parts joy and like, in my Gen X brain you shouldn’t be celebrated like that. You know what I mean? I just want to like, pick up on like the Gen Z vibe and celebrate feeling it in your body. Being proud of your accomplishments in a really genuine way, you know?

Yes. There’s definitely a nice balance that we hope to achieve in life when it comes to that, but I can tell you our customers and your fans absolutely love you and you always come up in interviews when we when we ask other performers who are some people that they watch or that they look up to. I’m definitely giving you your flowers now! Was there anything else that you’d like to mention or anything that we should be on the lookout for? I know, you haven’t gotten the script yet, so you might not know of any surprises to clue us in on.

I have probably as much information as you do. I’m just really, really excited. My best friend, Dani Daniels is coming all the way from Florida just to see me up there, and she’ll be staying with me for moral support. So I’m just, I don’t know, I’m excited, I’m nervous, I’m honored, all of that.

Well, we are definitely rooting for you. We can’t wait to see the show and we know you’re gonna do great. I hope you enjoy every second of it.
