Em Indica Interview: Cosplay, Porn as Art & More

Em Indica is a firm believer that porn can be art. Well, frame up any scene starring this porn newbie and put it in the nearest museum, because she’d inspire any Old Master to some of their finest work. Now she’s letting Adult Empire in on her career’s newest and latest scoops in this featured blog interview.

Tell us a little bit about your background. How did you become part of the industry?

About three months after I turned 18, I decided that I wanted to be a content creator. Naturally, as someone with a background in theater and performing, this transition made sense for me. I was already taking NSFW content of myself, so I pivoted to monetizing the kind of work that makes me happy. In 2021, I created an OnlyFans and started posting content there, streamed on Chaturbate, and posted on Manyvids. For about a year, I did these kinds of individual content creation so I could get used to the industry and build a name for myself. Collaborating with other creators and communicating with my fans are things that I’ve only gotten better at over time! I learned new techniques, how to improve my videos, and what our work relationships should look like. After I felt I had a solid foundation, I joined a few different agencies and started doing mainstream porn. A year and a half later, here I am!

What’s the story behind your stage name?

My good friends have always called me “Em,” and it makes me feel happy. When people on set call me “Em,” it makes me feel more comfortable, like I’m just hanging out with an old friend. Indica is a type of weed. I’ve always been a big weed advocate, and it’s helped me a lot in my life. I also prefer indicas over hybrids and sativas. Indica just sounds very feminine and pretty.

You recently tweeted a pic of part of your dildo collection, which is quite impressive. What are your go-to sex toys?

My magic wand is my baby. I love that toy so much, and it always gets me to orgasm. When it comes to dildos, I prefer silicone toys or glass toys. I love the toys made by Doc Johnson and SVAKOM. Glass toys hit my g spot dead on, and it’s also fun to put them in the fridge for temperature play!

We’ve seen clips of your pet-themed cosplay shoots. How did you discover your passion for that particular genre?

My pet-play journey has honestly been a long one. It started with me having dom/sub relationships and exploring what those relationships can be. I’m a “try anything once” kind of person, so I was exploring all kinds of kinks with my partners. Over time, I loved the idea of wearing a collar, being put in a cage, using bowls, going on walks, and living a true puppy lifestyle. It’s just another type of dom/sub relationship. Being at someone’s service and feeling a sense of pure freedom. It’s truly a euphoric feeling.

CJ Love from Real Life XXX described you as “one of the sweetest humans I know.” Talk a little bit about your collaborations with Real Life XXX!

I have worked alongside CJ Love for about a year, and it’s been a crazy ride! His shoots are very different but in an exciting and fun way. Since the beginning, I’ve genuinely believed in his message of humanizing sex workers. Yes, we have sex on camera for a living, but we’re also funny, charismatic, and some of the most honest people. I don’t know any other people doing his production the way he does, and I think we need variety in the industry. We’ve helped each other a lot over the past year, and he’s allowed me to expand my horizons. From teaching me how to use cameras, set up lighting, and edit on Premiere Pro- to letting me assist and film for his sets. I feel very fortunate to know him and have him by my side.

What on-camera porn firsts are you most eager to try?

I really want to do a gang bang video and a video for Kink.com. I consider myself a very kinky person, so I want more opportunities to show that.

Your character in The Vixen Hotwives says, “Passion. There’s no denying it. When you’re attracted to someone, it’s not a choice you make, but a feeling you experience.” Do you agree? What’s the most compelling and irresistible instance of attraction you’ve ever experienced?

When it comes to attraction, no, it’s not always a choice. You can’t help having your feelings, but you can choose how you want to express those feelings. I’m attracted to many people, but there are just some people I would do anything for. It almost feels like you can’t say no to them. You would go to the end of the universe for them if you could. I think that’s a magical thing. There are so many ways to love someone.

You mentioned in a YouTube interview that you’re a big arts person. Are there any particular artists who have most inspired you?

I think the natural world and humans most inspire me. The world is so complicated but somehow still so beautiful. Whenever I feel uninspired, I’ll draw or paint whatever comes to mind first. I also love abstract art and painting aimlessly until I have something unique. It’s interesting to see how raw emotions fuel art pieces. I use Pinterest a lot too for inspiration. If I had to name one person who’s inspired my art, it would probably be Bob Ross. Not only because of his legendary landscape pieces but how he views art in general. It’s okay to make mistakes, and sometimes, those mistakes make the piece even better. I think that also applies to our daily life. You have to make mistakes to grow.

With your passion for art, do you think you’d like to branch into directing some day?

I most definitely will be directing sometime in the future. I already have experience assisting on sets, camera work, and script writing. It’s something I’m very passionate about doing. We need more female directors in porn. The male dominance in the industry has gone on for too long. I’ve come to learn that the female gaze is entirely different than the male gaze, and I want to show that.

Speaking of art, do you think porn can be art? What are some of the most artistic movies/scenes you’ve shot thus far?

Porn is definitely a form of art. It takes a lot of creativity to make a good scene. It’s even possible to create movie-quality scenes. One company that inspired me to start porn was Lust Cinemas. I was impressed by how beautifully the scenes were shot and how connected I felt to the characters. The human body is beautiful, and when you capture it right, it looks like a modern art piece. When it comes to companies I’ve worked for in the past, I love how my new sensations scenes came out. I think they’re great at capturing intimacy, and their scenes are also just beautifully shot.

You recently tweeted about the sad state of mental healthcare. Why do you think there are still so many stigmas associated with mental health concerns? As a society, what can we do to improve the situation?

I think the stigma mainly comes from misinformation and the long history of not understanding what mental illness actually is. The mentally ill are always portrayed as crazy and unsafe in the media. Back in the day, the mentally ill were extremely abused. Think about how old mental institutions were run and what our treatment options were. That wasn’t even that long ago. It’s hard for a neurotypical person to understand what it’s like to have something chemically wrong with your brain or to go through something so traumatic that your brain is permanently altered. While modern medicine come a long way, most people can’t even receive access to it. If we actually care about the people struggling, we need more funding put into research. We need to give people access to cheap and affordable care. We need honest and trustworthy therapists to be available at schools if a kid needs help. We need to help homeless people get off the street and provide a safe place. CPS needs to stop ignoring huge red flags and be completely remodeled. There’s so much work to be done, but the least we can all do is be a little nicer to ourselves and each other. We’re all doing the best we can, given our current circumstances. Go out of your way to do nice things. Everyone is deserving of love.

What has surprised you the most about the adult industry?

I hate to sound negative, but honestly, how unregulated it still is. You would expect certain practices and ethics to be in place, but we’re still so behind. It doesn’t have to be this way though, and I think the new generation of porn will make it way better. The cycle of abuse will not continue.

You’ve shot boy/girl scenes as well as girl/girl scenes. Which type is more challenging to shoot?

I don’t think one is more challenging than the other. They’re both challenging in different ways, but I’m equally tired at the end of the day.

Award season is coming up. Is there any particular industry award you’d most like to win?

I would love to win something for my acting or performance. Maybe best boobs too . . . but any nominations or awards would be amazing. I’m not picky!

What’s next for Em Indica?

As of now, I plan on continuing to be in mainstream porn and making connections. I hope to have my own agency one day, direct a major production, write for a major production, win awards, and change the industry as we know it.
