What was the origin of the project?
Stormy Daniels
I was approached by Adam & Eve to direct a feature for them. Of course, I said yes. I’ve only worked with them in the past when I did a co-production with Wicked Pictures. They were the co-producers of Wanted back in 2017. And so I said, “Yes, absolutely, I would love to work with you guys. You know, did you have something in mind?’ And of course, they said, “Oh, can you do it another Wanted? We’d love that.” And I was like, “Oh my God, you’ve got be kidding me. Because it was the most horrific shoot that I’ve ever endured.” Barrett, it is one of the rare ones he wasn’t on with me.
But when we filmed Wanted, literally everything that could possibly go wrong, went wrong on that shoot. My horse drowned in a flood back home. We had a set burned down, we got robbed, everybody had heat exhaustion. Penny Pax lied about being able to ride a horse and threw my whole thing into chaos. I mean, it was just, there was the infamous scene with poor Anikka [Albrite] and Allie Hazes and the leeches, like straight out of Stand by Me. Poor Anikka had a leech on her. But I’m telling you, when I say everything that could go wrong during the filming Unwanted went wrong, it was absolutely true.
So of course, they said, “Oh, can you do another Wanted?” The other big problem with that is that Wanted had such a huge budget. It was almost a $200,000 budget, and that’s just not what we’re working with these days in the adult business, thanks to websites and piracy. So it’s like how do you make something even close to that without the finances that we had, and it was, like I said, a co-production. So I said, “Well, I can probably do something, but it has to be modern day because what puts the original movie into such big numbers was the wardrobe and the the set design.” I mean, everything was accurate for the period in the 1800s. It was from the wardrobe to the saddles on the horses to the even the guns were the right time period. And that just makes everything more expensive. I looked at the budget for Wanted, and the horses alone were $24,000. Just the horses.
One of the good things about doing a modern day is if you have to go somewhere, you don’t have to get on your horse. You can get in your truck and drive. So I said, “Yes, I can do it, but it will have to be modern day.” And everybody’s into Yellowstone these days. And let’s just capitalize on that and write on that. So I did base Redemption on Wanted. It is the sequel, but it is set modern day, my character and Redemption is the fifth great, great, great, great, great, great granddaughter of my character in Wanted, which brought up a whole other problem. Where do you find talent in the adult business that can act, perform, possibly ride a horse that wasn’t already in Wanted. So we struggled with that a little bit as well. But I think that we did a really good job with what we had to work with. You know, one of the things that I learned from being in the adult businesses is to make a small amount of money looks like a whole lot of money.
And luckily now I have Barrett with me behind camera and he just brought a whole fresh set of eyes. I have to say this is the first time in my entire career that I wasn’t also the DP. Because normally, yes, I have amazing cinematographers on all of my shoots, but I’ve always also been the DP so that was a little difficult for me.
Were there any disagreements about the creative direction of the project?
Barrett Blade
Well, we’re married. Pretty much anybody when you have too strong creative people — I mean, that’s how you get your best product that has gone through your ups and downs, your fights, your ins, your outs. And then you come to your happy place and everybody wins. So, I mean, it’s movie magic, it’s how it goes. If everything went perfectly smooth, it probably would be negative for the project.
How much of your own personalities are in the characters you play in Redemption?
Stormy Daniels
I based Braxton a lot on Barrett. Well, I dress [Barrett] to look like [Yellowstone character] Rip [Wheeler]. That’s writer’s freedom to live out your own fantasy. I definitely styled him like Rip from from Yellowstone. But to be quite honest, before what gave me the idea to go the Yellowstone route with these characters is before I even spoke to Adam & Eve, before this project was even on the table whatsoever, we had so many people tell us that we reminded them of Rip and Beth [Dutton from Yellowstone]. His aunt actually is the one that asked me “Have you two watched Yellowstone?” And I was like, “No, I’ve actually never seen it.” She’s like, “Oh, my god, you have to sit down right now and watch it because you and Barrett are just Rip and Beth.” And I was like, “Oh, my god, this is pretty cool.” So I did format the characters a little bit after that, but I think that you are a lot like Rip, but I’ve definitely got the temper that Beth has.
Were you Yellowstone fans?
Stormy Daniels
I had just never seen it [until it was recommended to me]. He had been watching it the whole time, and I just started the first one, I guess about a year ago.
Barrett Blade
We probably watched it for different reasons. You [Stormy] watch it for the characters. I watched it for the cinematography. It’s really well shot project. And I think it’s beautifully shot, especially as it gets later on in the seasons. And they upgrade some of the technology, but to me that that’s what drove me and is just how well it’s shot. The characters develop based off that.
How did you cast the movie?
Stormy Daniels
I initially wrote the lead character that’s played by Laney — and this is one of those like happy accidents — I initially wrote that for Anna Claire Clouds, because she had done such a phenomenal job in Hysteria for me and I knew that she really knew how to ride horses. I believe she’s barrel raced before so after people not being honest about their riding abilities, I knew that Anna was actually a very good equestrian. And she’s beautiful and can act, and she’s got the blond hair and blue eyes. I need somebody to pass as my daughter.
So I originally wrote that for her. And she was unable to do it. And we went through a couple of other actresses and the other big problem was not only do I need somebody who was the right age, could act, wasn’t scared of horses, that I could actually trust to get on a plane and flight to location, because we shot a lot of this in Florida. And that narrows down the talent pool quite a bit. And so Barrett actually recommended Laney Grey, he had shot her a few times and worked with her as talent. This is where I had to put the crazy way because I was like, “Wait, you you actually had sex with her? She’s not staying in my house. Oh, hell no!” And he’s like, “Trust me, Stormy. It’s fine.”
And she was absolutely fucking phenomenal. Hands down the best actress I have ever shot. She blew me away. Not just with her acting and her sex performances, but her attitude. She got bit by fire ants! She is such an amazing performer that I’ve actually cast her in the lead of the horror movie that Barrett and I are shooting in October for mainstream. I’ve directed a lot of really talented actresses in my career, having done so many features for Wicked and having access to the best contract girls in the business. And she’s the best actress I’ve ever directed hands down.
And then I had directed Will [Pounder] before so I knew he was great. Obviously I’ve directed Barrett a bunch as well. I knew he’s a phenomenal actor. Jay Romero, I have to give credit to Barrett because I had never met either one of them until they showed up here, Laney and Jay. I had never directed them. And they were just both fucking amazing great chemistry. Aiden Ashley, I had worked with before. She was a very last minute replacement because that was supposed to be Katie Morgan. She was supposed to play my sister. I know Katie’s amazing. Evan [Stone] was supposed to shoot BTS for me into a non-sex role. And they got COVID the day before they were supposed to get on their plane. So Aiden kind of saved the day.
The movie is about the trials and tribulations of family. Was there a family-type atmosphere on set?
Barrett Blade
Well, everybody lived and stayed in the house. It did help. I mean, we had some of the crew that was staying at Airbnb, but all the main characters stayed at our house. So we don’t want to give the movie away, but, you know, one of them plays her daughter. So they had had a nice motherly vibe going on. So yeah, it really did.
Will there be a sequel?

So I know that they like to do that. So I left it a little bit open if they wanted to go that route. If Adam & Eve wanted to — like I said, this was the first thing I ever directed for them. So they may never hire me again. But I did leave it to where so it wouldn’t necessarily be a Western, it would focus on probably them getting married and just be a cute little [story]. I always leave my scripts open because just like in real life, nothing is ever really over.
Was there any particular passionate moment that you were proud of as a filmmaker?
Stormy Daniels
Personally my favorite scene was the Will Pounder and Laney Grey scene. I thought that Laney and Will and the barn where he stayed in character and he looked fucking amazing. He was able to pick her up and and I just thought it was a really really hot scene and I liked the way — because she has two sex scenes in the movie — I really liked that we see a difference. And how she was with one of her partners and one with the other. So that was pretty cool.
Me and Barrett’s sex scene — it was a pickup scene actually. And we didn’t even have a cameraman for that one. So he had to do all of it. That’s why it’s all basically shot from far away. It was shot about a month after the movie. We didn’t have a cameraman so literally he shot camera on his own sex scene, basically.

Creative disagreements?

Did the two of you have any creative disagreements? I know that you’re credited in the movie, as Stormy mentioned, as the DP but also the editor, the music arranger. So were there any sort of friendly discussions about the creative nature of the movie between the two of you as it as it developed and was edited and put together?
Barrett Blade 5:31
Well, we’re married? Pretty much answer to anybody, when you have too strong, creative people, I mean, that’s how you get your best product that is going through your ups and downs, your fights you’re in, you’re out here. And then he comes to your happy place, and everybody wins. So I mean, it’s it’s blue, the magic, that’s how it goes. If everything went perfectly smooth, it probably wasn’t that good of a project.

Right, it was that it was the hardest thing for me, I think was was giving up the control. And the trust, which is something I’ve never done before on any time in the past that I did a little bit I regretted it immensely. And I have I haven’t been directing for, you know, the last four years or so. And it’s just astounding how quickly technology changes. You know, what you can do now with lenses and cameras? I mean, Barrett has gotten the best equipment you can have. I mean, we shot this on everything that we use to shoot, this is nothing that I had on my last movie.

I mean, you could also do it was 510 years ago,

when I was directing five years ago, yeah. Well, yeah, you know what I mean,

and just look into the eyes, you know, telling the story through the land, as opposed to just shooting shots.

And I wish we’d had the drones when we shot wanted to get, you know, the horse shots, and we had them in this. And it’s just, I mean, you can really tell the difference.

Right, those drone shots really do give it a sense of scope and scale. For sure. Yeah. Now, of course, the two of you play the, in essence, the leads of the piece, Samantha and Braxton. So how much of the two of you is in these characters? And are there any traits that you see in these characters that you’d love to emulate more in your real life?
Stormy Daniels 7:23
I based Braxton a lot on Barrett. While I dress up to look like that’s riders freedom of living. I definitely, I definitely styled him like rip from from Yellowstone. But to be quite honest, before what gave me the idea to go the Yellowstone route with these characters is before I even spoke to Adam, even before this project was even on the table whatsoever, we had so many people tell us that we provided them a ribbon bath. His aunt actually is the one that asked me how have you do math? Well, Yellowstone, and I was like, No, I’ve actually never seen it. She’s like, Oh, my God, you have to sit down right now and watch it. Because you and Barrett are just ripping back. And I was like, oh my god, this is pretty cool. So I did. Yeah, format the characters a little bit after that. But I think that you are a lot like rep. And I’m definitely got the temper that Ben has.

And you have to sometimes but the crazy way to so yeah, but I don’t see how it works.

So you weren’t a fan of Yellowstone from the very beginning then you’d had to be sort of recommended to you after it had been out a while then.
Stormy Daniels 8:37
Never seen it. Yeah, I wasn’t Not a fan. I had just never seen it. I mean, this has been out and you’ve been watching since it started Yeah, he he’d been watching it the whole time. And I just started I mean, I watched the first one, I guess about a year ago but we probably watched it

too difficult. You watch it for the characters. I watched it for the cinematography. I thought it’s a really well shot project. And I think it’s beautiful shot, especially as it gets later on in the seasons and they upgrade some of the technology but to me that that’s what draws me in is just how well it’s shot. Yeah, I agree with him. The characters develop based off that and that’s what you’re doing.

Yeah, I think the Barons that are really really amazing job of capturing the look for redemption and making it look it’s close to you can make an adult movie looks like Yellowstone. I mean, I think that he just cinematically he nailed it. And you’re acting wasn’t terrible, either.

Yes, it’s a beautiful movie, for sure. And speaking of the acting of there are a lot of great performances in the movie, not just the two of you, but the whole cast is terrific. So how did you assemble this particular cast? And did you get everybody you wanted and were there anybody who’s sort of pleasantly surprised you?

She asked her and Evan and Evan was supposed to shoot BTS for me into a nonsense roll and they got COVID The day before they were supposed to get on their plane. It’s not a want to curse. It’s a feature curse. And then the biggest the biggest shout out probably the main bad guy. Nick Bronson was supposed to be paid by delta bone only because he’s a good actor. And he lives a half an hour away from us here in Florida and begged us to give him a shot. And then flick this over and then flexes over like literally the day before said Oh, I forgot to ask awful work or whatever. And I that was even harder part to cast because where do you find somebody that’s available? Less than 24 hours in advance that has the right look and is the right age? You know, they had to be able to play Jays father, you know, be the very specific age bracket. I’m sorry. Okay,

you guys keep going. I gotta take this No worries.

And so like our golf carts getting repaired. Oh, good. And we needed to haul hay and stuff with the horses. Um, and so I went down everybody I knew and I contacted Brad Armstrong. He was obviously thrilled to do it, but couldn’t get a flight last minute. And so it’s played by my friend Darrell DJ loop and the scripts, who is just one of my friends from New Orleans dad. And I called him he’s never acted never been an adult child. Nothing. And I called Carol and I said, Can you help me please? He was like, whatever you need storm and he literally drove all night. He got to my house at like three in the morning, I believe. And he was on camera at 9am had never done a line of dialogue before. And he was so nervous and then poor thing he didn’t realize that we shoot out of order. I think to tell someone who had never been on a set like hey, cross reference with the suit schedule. So he learned the script in order like the first couple of pages but that’s not even what we shot the first day oh yeah, it was I you know, things you don’t think of when you’re in a panic last minute and your students, someone who’s never been on a set coming back, but Sam so and I think that he, for someone who’s never done a single line of dialogue ever,

especially as he got got warmed up to surprise us, you know, that’s big. That’s big character. Do you actually pull that off?
Dallas 15:13
I think he did too. Absolutely. He was a great villain. So there’s a there’s a lot of witty dialogue in the movie, I think. And I don’t want to spoil all the dialogue. But you know, one line that stood out to me, this place is our heart beat. I’ve already broken it once, you know, several lines like that that just really played

he rose. Well, also, love doesn’t have a type. I thought that was good. I’m sitting sitting because I’m curious that not because you told me too, and I’m nothing like him. True. You’re worse. You know, that was a good exchange. I thought. So. Well, that was essentially my question. Whether those were all on the script, or whether there was any improvisation within the dialogue at all.
Barrett Blade 16:06
There really wasn’t involved with it. Yeah, she’s a brilliant writer. So I mean, if it’s, if it makes her an offer, or it’s better than her, she lets it go. But otherwise, I would say stick to your script.
Stormy Daniels 16:18
Yeah. I mean, sometimes we do some other but in this script, it was definitely. Yeah, they played by the book for sure.
Barrett Blade 16:25
But it made sense to so it wasn’t like they were forced to just work better that way. Especially for the cut.

So the movie, of course, is about a family. Was there a family type atmosphere on the set as well?
Barrett Blade 16:38
Well, I mean, everybody lived in stayed in the house. So we pretty much kind of, they kind of did it did help. I mean, we had some of the crews that were seeing Airbnb, but all the main characters stayed at our house. So which, you know, as you know, we don’t want to give the movie away. But, you know, one of them plays her daughter. So they had had a nice motherly vibe going on. So yeah, it felt really good.

And the star of the movie is, is redemption. I named the movie after my course.

Exactly, exactly. Was it? Which is an interesting thing, the title sort of looms over the movie, and you do wonder how it will come to play. But it comes to play in an interesting way there. Yes. I mean, it is a movie, I would say audiences, it’s best to experience it with without knowing a ton about it. Because there are a lot of twists in the way a lot of turns. You know, a lot of characters aren’t exactly what you think that they are. I mean, it’ll look much like Yellowstone, I suppose in that sense. But it really works in that way. So as I was watching the movie, I was thinking to myself, gosh, you know, this family and this dynamic. This could be a series this could be there could be a part two has that entered your head at all regarding redemption.

So I know that they like to do that. So I left it a little bit open if they wanted to go that route. If Atomy wanted to give, you know, like I said, this was the first thing I ever directed for them. So they may never hire me again. But I did leave it to where it could have been, you know, and and if so it wouldn’t necessarily be a Western, it would focus on probably them getting married and just be a cute little whatever. I always leave my scripts open because just like real life, nothing is ever really over.

Exactly. So, of course the movie has a number of very notable sex scenes, was there any particular passionate moment that you were proud of as a filmmaker?

Um, sex wise, let’s see. Um, I personally my favorite scene was the well pounder and Lanie grave scene. And

personally, I have two genuine, they’re there. Yeah. But

they were more romantic. And we had some sound issues and some stuff but as a director, he’s you know, since we had some technical difficulties on that one, and she got bit by and so I felt bad every time I look at it, but I thought that Lanie and will and the barn were just he stayed in character, and he looked fucking amazing. He was able to pick her up and, and I just thought it was a really, really hot scene. And I liked the way cuz she has two sex scenes in the movie. I really liked that she, we see a difference. And how she is was was one of her partners and one of the other men. So that was pretty cool. Me and bear. It’s sexy. We did. There was a pickup scene actually. And we didn’t even have a cameraman for that one. So he had to do all of it. That’s why it’s all basically shot from far away. It was shot about a month after the movie. That was actually one of my questions whether it was difficult since you’re obviously behind the scenes players as well as performers where there were particular challenges to that aspect, directing and having such major acting roles in the movie as well.

I’ve, I’ve done that my entire career. Yeah, we both have. The thing that I found difficult was that we were on camera together so much. Because every other scene if he’s on camera, I was at the monitor and I was directing. So I was able to catch up, and vice versa. But so much of our big moments happen together. And there’s a lot

because you can always go back and watch it but the only time it was extremely difficult in this case was the scenes were Barrett and I were both on horseback. Because it’s can’t just jump off and get back on and you can’t have you can’t have somebody come over and bring you the monitor on the horse because the horse is scared. And the audio on that was just tragic. So we had to cut a lot of stuff out but we didn’t want to.

Um, yeah. It depends on it depends on who the talent is. It depends on who their characters are. And it depends on the scripts in a perfect world. Absolutely. The second you start going in there and meddling during someone’s intimate moments, you’re, you’re going to start making a contrived, best case scenario, you make it contrived, worst case, the guy’s going to get in his head and start to lose what I try not to do that I tried to I try to tell all the little notes in advance. And I also try to tell just the girl so that there’s something specific I need to have said or position I tried to tell the female performer just because I don’t want the guy thinking about anything other than what’s going on downstairs for him. It’s a little less difficult in this movie because it’s the first time I’m really directed that we didn’t have to worry about the condom issue. Um, but everybody did a great job. We didn’t have anybody struggle, which was great.

You know, I’m honestly the first time Tommy costal worked with me and he didn’t realize he was working with me and not for me. He had a complete nervous breakdown. I went outside and cry. That was not my self esteem.

But I do want to ask you also about So you mentioned you were working on some sort of horror movie project with Barrett. I wondered if you could tell us a little bit about that. And also, so about some of the other cool projects that you have coming up, I know you’ve been doing some stand up comedy, you’ve got a pair of paranormal show that you’re shopping. Well,

super busy. So I have always wanted to direct a horror movie. And it just didn’t, it just the pieces didn’t come together. So Baron actually had the idea of saying like, hey, instead of just jumping out the gate with your big huge script that you wrote, you know, I wrote like 15 years ago. He’s like, he suggested to try to write a small like a short and submitted to film festival. So that’s what I did. And we got funding, and we’re shooting that in October. And it’s called wrecked. It’s kind of a Lover’s Lane script. And we do have a couple of adult performers and but it’s on an adult film, you know, my friend’s daughter, 11 year old daughter is actually playing the lead. So we’re gonna shoot that in some minutes at some festivals. And then I have a larger horror movie that I have I want to do and then a suspense movie called hypocrite that’s probably going to get me in a lot of trouble, because it’s very current events, sort of, without giving too much away. Yeah, I’m actually, obviously I’m still dancing. I’m still performing. I’m still doing the, you know, the only fans thing. Barrett is you know, we live here in Florida. He’s got a pretty successful equine photography business. I love the man who said, I don’t like horses, I’ll never have a horse. He’s outside right now with his horse. And two torsos and things like that. And real estate ads here, which sounds incredibly boring. But when you have a drone, and you’re living in farm country, it’s pretty lucrative. I am doing my stand up. So I used to do stand up comedy quite a bit. You know, I was endorsed through Live Nation and did the House of Blues and all that stuff. And then COVID happened. So that tour got cancelled. So I’m doing my first comedy show back, and a couple of weeks at stand up in New York, September 13, and 14th. And we’re filming it. And it’s my first show back since COVID. So I’m a little bit nervous because this asshole goes, What if I don’t think you’re funny? So now I want to cancel the whole thing, because now I’m complex. Because he’s never seen me actually, nominee. So we’ve got that going on the paranormal. So I we have you know, Barrett shot all of that we shot that in 2020. Before we were even dating, which is crazy. We have I think 11 episodes of that. Loosely packaged depending on where it goes. We’re just kind of sitting on that for now. And then, of course, you know, we have this documentary coming out on peacock. In the February, January, February, I don’t know, it’s just called storming. And it’s been, you know, we’ve been working on this for a very long time. And that’s a very, very huge thing. And then, of course, you know, I’m up to my, you know, up to my tips and lawsuits, as always, and, um, I don’t know what else you want to know. It’s busy, busy.

Right, right. So I don’t know how much you can say, but the the peacock documentary, like how long has that image in the works? And can you give us a little flavor of the tone of it? And what we might expect in that.

I haven’t seen a cut of it yet. So I don’t know, they’ve changed gear several times. But it’s been, you know, we’ve been working on it for I mean, five years, and they’ve bought all this old footage. And I documented everything that I’ve been through and all this terrifying moments of, you know, that a lot of people don’t realize that’s happened to me, and, and then some current stuff, too, you know, I got to speak at the Oxford Union for the second time, which is pretty amazing to see you and go once but I’ve done it twice. And I’ve spoken at Cambridge and that the weekend. So we have all of that as well. Hopefully, it’s entertaining. Hopefully it’s good. Hopefully it clears up some rumors and it’s being produced, you know, by a very huge company and very famous filmmaker that I’ll let them wait to announce it but pretty impressive.
