CJ Love Interview: The Man Behind Real Life XXX

In the end, porn is just good, old-fashioned entertainment. Sure, it may have a very specific purpose (pleasure), one that sometimes gets lost in a sea of endless conversations about its moral implications, but porn really just wants to show you a good time. This sense of showmanship, with a modern social-media sensibility, is something CJ Love has never lost sight of. His reality TV-style porn brand, Real Life XXX, has all the humor of a gameshow combined with all the sex appeal of a classic gonzo porn movie. In the latest Adult Empire interview, Love gives us an inside look at his career, his signature label, and where he hopes to go next.

Tell us about your background and how you got into the adult business.

I’m CJ Love. As of this article, I am 31 years old, and I run the upstart crossover social media/gameshow/XXX Production “Real Life” XXX — ex-athlete, communications undergrad, and passionate aspiring influencer. A brief mainstream acting career is the cherry on top of my background, but I didn’t gain respect for sex work until I started working as a floor host in a gentleman’s club. Once I saw the hustle and grind that goes into the sexual aspect that we sell, it gave me respect to those people that work hard to make it happen. That eventually combined with my love for social media contact, my love for adult contact, and my love for mass media entertainment, both on camera and off camera.

What’s the story behind your stage name?

The story behind the stage name “CJ” honestly began just on a whim but “Love” came after various quick tries with other names. Everything happened very sporadically but for some reason CJ always stuck.

Success in porn means being a good filmmaker and a good businessperson. How do you balance those two roles? Which of the roles do you enjoy more?

I feel like those roles mutually benefit one another, so there is no balance necessary. I studied broadcast communication elements and filmmaking elements in my collegiate studies and learned what made successful entertainment businesses as well as unsuccessfully entertainment businesses. When you put a good product on the table and people want to see it, it will be profitable, that’s just what I’ve come to know.

Therefore, I personally enjoy the filmmaking process. It’s fun building something from scratch and seeing those pieces slowly come together into figuring this figment of your imagination is started as.

Porn filmmaker John Stagliano once said that he makes porn movies that he himself would want to see as a consumer. Do you approach porn the same way, or do you cater to audience demands to a degree?

I feel like I have to have it cater to myself. Especially since the bread and butter of my content is safe for work, it has to be very unique and have its own way and show my individuality. Consumers definitely drive our brand, don’t get me wrong, but things that entertain me aren’t much different than what the fans like in the sense of laughing, connection, and passion.

How would you sum up Real Life XXX to someone completely new to the brand?

I would ask them who their favorite comedy type influencers are that they follow YouTube, TikTok, etc. Then I would have them imagine if they put XXX stars in collaboration with those individuals. It almost seems like a foreign concept, but it is both a production that impresses upon casual individuals the respect that XXX stars deserve via the mainstream influencer world, while at the same time giving XXX fanatics a more human look into their favorite XXX stars.

The porn/reality/gameshow concept is unique in the world of porn. How did you come up with it?

I came up with the idea when I was both pursuing XXX videos while at the same time always scrolling YouTube, TikTok, etc. Then one day it clicked that I should do something unique. I always wanted to be unique and have the next thing that didn’t just reinvent the wheel. So when I thought that I could combine all the worlds I loved in social media and adult. It clicked not only as a cool idea, but as a potentially powerful one that could be world changing.

What has been one of your favorite Real Life XXX gameshow scenarios thus far?

Honestly one of my favorites I think I’ve been a part of so far is the one that just happened in Episode 14. I don’t wanna give away the surprises as to what happens, but Nathan Bronson and Millie Morgan get stuck to each other for a hot minute and their chemistry was absolute 🔥

Every porn filmmaker eventually has to tangle with the fact that society still has hang-ups about adult entertainment. Have you ever faced censure or scorn because of your chosen career?

I have had to every day. My most recent ex as well as my parents’ jobs was the reason I originally started shooting with sunglasses on for all my free content. It’s eventually become a calling card. I like because it makes me unique, but that potential fallout has been career defining, but everything happens for a reason. I truly believe that.

How do you approach casting for your videos?

We go about casting what I view as different than most. I actually do my scouting through interviews and facial expressions aka non-verbal language. Personality matters more than your body type because if you don’t have a personality, good luck on a high paced YouTube channel. Casting my PA’s/helpers happens differently. My bestie and #1 in my life Em Indica started helping us on our productions purely due to the fact that her and mine’s ideas connected overall.

Your brand has a fun PG YouTube channel. How did that come about?

Well, the YouTube channel is like the heart of the production, every single one of our XXX episodes has a call back to that entire day and social media video. As previously mentioned that came about based off the idea of trying to humanize those XXX stars that are deserving into the mainstream world as well as trying to be unique and create a different emotion. You can expect to find  our SFW episodes with your favorite XXX stars there. You’ll be able to create a connection with them in a funny comedic way while also having it feel connective through our YouTube.

What are some of the most surprising or unexpected challenges you’ve encountered making an adult movie?

This answer may fall harshly on some sensitive individuals in the community, but the biggest surprises and unexpected challenges would have revolve around aligning myself with the correct people in the biz. I started this production with a completely different group of friends and associates. Through the trauma of my own that I have grown through as well as poor actions/communications of others, it led me to realigning my circles until I had found people who I could communicate with deeply without being judged. To this day, there are still people who we come across that decide to have communication breakdowns and act selfish towards us. That is why our focus has been on those that give us respect while we give nothing but respect in return.

Currently, what are your favorite TV shows, music, movies, books, etc.?

I personally am on social media more than watching TV and such now a days. Reading-wise my favorite book I look at now and then is The ABC’s of Success by Bob Proctor. I had the chance to have this booked signed by him when I was a direct sales entrepreneur back in the day and learning about the legacy he had and who he learned from, it made me take every principle in this book seriously to this day in my business. It’s literally a multi-billion dollar book that comes from the Think and Grow Rich tree.

What would you dream porn project be, if money were no object?

My dream project would be to take all of the top stars and put them in a massive Amazing Race-style challenge where the winner or winners would get 100,000 dollars or a ridiculously huge prize. Then the XXX scene would be a massive orgy with everyone. Although there would be no topping that ever 😅

What advice would you give someone looking to get into the industry?

Adult content now a days needs to be different yet uniquely you. Performer or producer, nobody will ever be able to duplicate that character so focus on that as opposed to your BBL’s or body image. It’s the heart, that’s what truly counts now a days at the core of this business I believe.

We have one more big episode coming in 2023, but we are also getting ready for expo season.
