Podcast: Skye Blue Interview
Skye Blue‘s performances have the graceful poise of a cool, confident fashion model. It’s sad, then, to think that the fashion industry rejected this luminously talented figure simply because she had a parallel career as a porn performer. Thankfully, she took this blow with typically stalwart resolve, eventually forging a splendidly successful porn career in movies for Jules Jordan, Deeper, HardX, and more. We were delighted to have a chance to chat with Blue for the newest episode of the Adult Empire Podcast.
Blue covers many topics, including surprising things about the adult industry, society’s attitude toward porn, her first experiences with porn, how she got into the industry, reactions to her original short haircut, her fandom for Breakfast at Tiffany’s, porn spoofs, VR scenes, her celebrity doppelgangers, New York versus Los Angeles, body modifications and BBLs, breast enhancement, the need to be resilient against criticism, the Playboy mystique, tattoos, her nerdy side, the mind-clarifying benefits of masturbation, kinks and fetishes, working with high-profile directors (Axel Braun, Mason, and others), shooting porn teasers, working with Dredd, being bad at math, sexual double standards between the genders, the psychology of porn, challenging sex positions, social media and TikTok, plus a “lightning round” of mashup questions.

On the first porn she ever saw:
I was scrolling through Tumblr, and I think I saw one of Owen Gray’s posts. And that was the first time I had ever really seen porn outside of dirty mags on a shelf and Barnes and Noble, where I was like, wow, this is super beautiful. This can be like porn. Like it was the first eye-opening to porn that wasn’t like cookie cutter from the 2000s — really beautifully and artistically done.
On getting into the porn business:
I started camming at 18. I was working in a Dunkin Donuts. And a friend came up to me that I had another friend that owned the camming website. And I started to do that and it was really fun. And I continued doing camping throughout my modeling career. That was, at the time a very big no-no in that industry. So I broke my morality clause — they fired me, essentially tore up my contract. And I decided to just go full force in the adult industry. I loved like creating things and camming and doing content anyway, so I was like, why not? Just go all the way!
On the strong reactions to her short hairstyle:
I didn’t think that hair would have such a role in people’s emotions towards my porn. Some people absolutely adored it, some people just couldn’t stand it. And I was like, well, if I wear a wig, it’s the same body so I wasn’t understanding at all but to each their own. I’m a porn consumer. And it happened a lot to when I decided to get rid of the short hair. People were so happy or people were so upset I was getting rid of it. Because it is a lesser-seen thing in porn having like extremely short hair. I think during my time when I was first starting porn and there were only like two or three other people that had the very, very short hair.
On her Hollywood lookalikes:
Most of the time, I do get Scarlett Johansson. When I had the short hair, I got Miley Cyrus a lot, but I think that was just because we both had short hair.
On body modification:
I think BBLs [Brazilian butt lift] are on the rise right now. So we’re seeing a lot of that, but yeah, at some point I think everybody talks about you know the little things that they’ve done — a nose job, boob job getting their ass done, a BBL, just kind of anything to kind of heighten your appearance to really help with sales.
On masturbation:
I think when I was younger, I felt a little bit of guilt about it particularly just because like my mom never talked about anything sexual with us. So I kind of had my own exploration of finding that myself. I grew up on Tumblr. So at that time, it was kind of like Tumblr’s heyday for porn and all of that and an expression of self-love.
So I had a really great experience with it of being able to see this community of people talking about how it’s very good and you shouldn’t be ashamed of it. So I didn’t really have too much of a problem in that category. And then as I got older I started using masturbation as a form of like clarity, because [if] I was ever having like a bad day or I couldn’t make a decision, I was like alright, I need some post-cum clarity. Let’s go rub one out and come back.
I think it also really helps all the time whenever I’m like fiending over a boy. I’m like, Alright, am I just horny or do I actually like them. But I tend to realize that if I get really stressed out or something, it’s a way to like de-stress myself and think a little bit clearer. At least for me! I know with men, it’s a lot to do with like hormones and testosterone. But for me, it’s more like of, I guess, a self-love ritual where I’m just like, alright, let’s like just focus on myself focus on fueling my body rather than what’s going on my in my head and then after we can try and figure it out.
Because sometimes you just get overwhelmed [with] the feelings of something new. And it’s exciting and you want to like them, but if it’s just all about sex, you’re not like thinking about them as an actual person and how they’re treating you. So like, get sex out of the way have an orgasm, and then focus on how they’re actually treating me rather than just the sexual aspect.
On working with demanding directors like Axel Braun:
It’s very rewarding to see the end masterpiece. I think a lot of times during the events, I will get a little sassy. I mean, I always understand the vision and what it’s going towards. It’s just the day itself can be a little grueling, if I have to redo an intro scene 10 times to get the perfect shot. It’s like I know half the people skip through the intro. But I understand the vision I get it. If I was making a porno and directing I would want someone to do the same thing for me. So I always just expect a very long day try and set myself up mentally I’m like alright, we’re going to be there 16 hours we’re going to do it it’s going to be fine. It’s going to be beautiful in the end and it always is beautiful in the end.
On working with Dredd:
Oh, extremely intimidating. I was super scared because especially not knowing anything about Dredd before, just his dick size. There’s not really all too much they tell you other than that when you get on set, they don’t want you I guess getting scared off. But it wound up being not as bad as I thought it was going to be and he’s just so sweet and understanding and made me feel so safe there. “If you want to stop at anytime, we can. We don’t have to continue going. I know that I’m a lot.” So just hearing that made it a lot easier to really finish the scene. But it’s super intimidating. walking up to a man who’s whose member is the size of my forearms.

Intro
Dallas 0:39
Hello, and welcome to the Adult Empire Podcast. I’m Dallas, your host. Today’s guest has shot for some of the greatest directors in the industry, including Greg Lansky, Axel Braun, Mason, Kayden Kross, and many more. She is Skye Blue, and she joins us now. So sky blue, you started in the industry around 2018. I wondered, what has been the most surprising thing about the porn business to you?
Mainstream versus adult / porn and professionalism
Skye Blue 1:08
Oh, that’s a good question. I want to say the most surprising thing would be how professional everything is. I came from like modeling fashion and fine art nude. And compared to that, the porn industry was super professional, in comparison — set times call sheets, all of that I really didn’t think it would be so intense as it was coming like from camming and stuff like that, where it’s really just go with the flow. So I was quite surprised by that.
Dallas 1:49
Right? Because there is a perception in the broader population sometimes that the porn industry is kind of this seedy place where things are unprofessional. Where as I think a point you’ve made before is that sometimes it’s quite the opposite. Sometimes mainstream is the place where things get really kind of sketchy.
Skye Blue 2:05
Yeah, definitely.
Dallas 2:10
Why do you think people always jump to such negative conclusions about the adult industry?
Skye Blue 2:16
I think there’s just a bad light on it. And when people think of sex, normally, I don’t think there’s any like structure to it. It’s a very, in the moment, you know, really, just, I don’t think anybody would ever put the two and two together that sex and professionalism that could go together. I mean, even me before I was always just like, “Oh, no, sex is so much fun. It’s all about free love, you know.” So I think on that topic, most people in their vanilla lives wouldn’t put the two and two together. Not just that, but I think when it comes to morality and stuff like that, a lot of people just don’t see this as, you know, being something that’s like a viable option. It’s very taboo to think about to the normal person. So anything that’s out of their roundhouse can always be perceived as something that was dirty per se.
First porn encounters
Dallas 3:24
Do you remember the very first time that you yourself encountered pornography?
Skye Blue 3:29
Yeah, I do. I think it was 14 and I was scrolling through Tumblr, and I think I saw one of Owen Gray’s posts.
Dallas 4:03
So did that open the floodgates for you? Did you become a consumer of porn? Or did that not happen until later?
Skye Blue 4:09
Oh, no, it definitely did. It opened the floodgates. And thankfully enough at that time, or Tumblr was really like, super heavy into all of that. So I loved going through all the little GIFs and stuff people put in there. It was definitely like the awakening to the roller coaster. And then, because I had such a fondness for it, I thought it was just so beautiful. I really always had this idea in my head that it wasn’t anything bad. And when I turned 18, and of course, it’s like the moment I was like, Oh my God, I want to do this.
Joining the industry
Dallas 4:42
So take us through that a little bit, if you don’t mind, and some people will know the story, of how you — so you started out in mainstream modeling and then you eventually pivoted to porn. Give us a little thumbnail sketch of that story.
Skye Blue 4:55
Well, I started camming at 18.
Dallas 5:36
So you were doing camming then first in the sense. It wasn’t that you did mainstream modeling and then tried cam. Camming came first. Am I understanding correctly?
Skye Blue 5:43
Yes, yeah. Camming always came first. I had quit for a little while while it was modeling. But as we know, now, it’s not like the money grab, people think it is very rarely, like get a huge payout. So I was using that to supplement my income. And of course, at the time, I had blue hair. So they found me quite easily.
Short hair, don’t care?
Dallas 6:05
Right, that was one of your original signatures, as well as very short-cropped hair. And I think you’ve talked about this before that a lot. That was surprisingly kind of controversial. Did it surprise you that people had such strong reactions to those two things one way or the other?
Skye Blue 6:21
Yeah, no, I was really surprised.
Dallas 7:14
So what was your inspiration for that hairstyle originally? Was there somebody you kind of modeling yourself after? Or was there a different inspiration for that?
Skye Blue 7:22
I really loved Breakfast at Tiffany’s growing up. So her hairstyle kind of came from that. Not just that, but before I got into mainstream as just a content creator, I was changing my hair constantly, like maybe once every couple of months. And it just got to the point where I was like, I’m here to get the short length. There’s nothing else I can really do. I already had extension, so why don’t we just try something completely different? And I decided to go with the short hair.
Movie influences (Breakfast at Tiffany’s)
Dallas 7:52
Would it be a dream to someday appear in a Breakfast at Tiffany’s porn style spoof?
Skye Blue 7:57
Oh, my God, that’d be so sick. I would absolutely adore that.
Dallas 8:01
I wonder if that exists. It feels like everything has been spoofed at one point or another. Although offhand I can’t think of one. But I bet that there might be one somewhere maybe back in the archives there somewhere. So is it that you’re a big fan of Audrey Hepburn? Is that the main aspect of that movie that appeal to you?
Skye Blue 8:17
Yeah, I think so. It was just that and I watched the film so many times growing up that it was always something in the back of my head. How much like I love the hairstyle and her as an actress.
Dallas 8:34
Are there any other movies that were very influential on you?
Skye Blue 8:40
wait, what else do we watch? I think The Princess Bride and Grease were two that were always on at my house when I was younger. So really the woman going through change in her life and her man there to support her.
Dallas 8:59
Right, interesting theme there. I know there’s definitely been a Grease porn spoof or two. Princess Bride. Maybe? I don’t know. That would be an interesting one, though. If they haven’t made it yet. Seems like it merits that treatments are good. Definitely match up with that if someone wanted to attempt that. Would you want to tackle the Robin Wright role in that one if such a production came along?
Porn parodies
Skye Blue 9:23
Oh, yeah, no, that would be an amazing opportunity. I love spoofs and things like that. So it would be a dream come true. I love any kind of parody.
Dallas 9:34
Have you had many opportunities to shoot porn spoofs and parodies? I know that that kind of peaked as a porn trend, you know, probably before you entered the industry, but they still do them to some extent.
Skye Blue 9:45
Yeah, no, I really I think I’ve only done one based off of a movie. But yeah, I don’t think they’re really as common anymore. I think Axel Braun’s really the only one that was really trying to go for it, I know I did a VR one, but it just didn’t go as well as they thought it was. I think just because the movie remakes especially some of the movies nowadays are really, really hard to capture. Unless it’s like, something like Axel is doing where you’re wearing superhero costume. And it’s very easy to understand what it is.
Dallas 10:23
What was the VR spoof that you did that you were referring to?
Skye Blue 10:27
It was based off this movie Lucy, which is a very action packed heavy movie. So I I’m not sure if they hit the nail on the head quite with that one. I mean, the makeup effects that they did look great. But it was It wasn’t like one of the top movies out at the time. So it was a very interesting choice.
Dallas 10:54
Right? Because that’s the Scarlett Johansson movie, right? So you were playing the Scarlett Johansson character in essence is Yeah. Is there anyone else that you would consider to be your mainstream acting doppelganger or look like?
Skye Blue 11:09
Most of the time, I do get Scarlett Johansson. When I have the short hair, I got Miley Cyrus a lot, but I think that was just because we both had short hair.
Dallas 11:17
Right right. Of course. Now living of course and working in the in the Los Angeles area as you do. Do you ever run into celebrities? Do you have celebrity sightings? I mean, of course porn stars and celebrities too. But I guess, Hollywood acting celebrities. Does that happen sometimes?
Skye Blue 11:32
Um, sometimes, but not as often as you would think. I think when I lived in New York, I saw a lot more people I randomly had dinner with Hilary Duff one night, because my boyfriend at the time was a music producer. And his friend was dating her so I was also sorry,
Dallas 11:52
I was just gonna say so when you say randomly How did tell us a little bit more about that story. How did that happen?
Skye Blue 11:57
Oh, I I hear just asked me out to dinner one night with a couple of his friends. And lo and behold, there’s Hilary Duff sitting across from me, which I used to watch religiously. When I was younger. I was freaking out inside like a little fan girl. It’s like do I ask for an autograph? And who was that weird? But it was cute, having just like a dinner where she just wanted to be a normal person.
Dallas 12:22
For sure. You mentioned living in New York there. So contrast life in New York versus life in LA on the West Coast. I mean, there’s a lot of cliches about the different pace of life and the way people are do you find those things to be true? What was your experience?
Skye Blue 12:38
A little, I can’t say that I don’t miss New York, I think about moving back all the time. But the industry is here. I think the work is just like, where I really grew up into my adult self. So it’s always going to be home to me. You can’t beat the subway system out here in LA, the traffic is just insane. So saving money by not having a car up there is always great. And the fast paced lifestyle just really suits me. I used to love seeing everybody hustle and bustle around. It was really a big motivator. And because everything’s so well connected there, it’s just easier to meet and see people.
Dallas 13:18
Right, right, the city that never sleeps, and all those other cliches that people say about it. They’re quite true. As you as you say, definitely. Do you ever wish that you had been born in an earlier era back when the porn industry was kind of in New York? And then you could have been one of those original New York porn stars like you see in the movies?
Skye Blue 13:40
Oh, yeah. No, I used to think about that all the time, where I was like, Man, if I had been a porn star back in the day before body modifications became super common, it would have been insane for me.
Dallas 13:54
So that’s an interesting topic. body modifications. Is that Is that something that’s discussed a lot in the industry and amongst porn stars? Is that a, an open?
Skye Blue 14:02
Alright, yeah, I think at some point, everybody really goes through something. You know, we’ll see. I think PBLs are on the rise right now. So we’re seeing a lot of that. But yeah, at some point, I think everybody talks about you know, the little things that they’ve done a nose job boob job getting their ass on a BBL just kind of anything to kind of heighten your appearance appearance to really help with sales.
Dallas 14:30
What’s your kiddies name? Her name is locks locks is like ello X like like smoked salmon? Yeah. Nice. BBL, I have to admit, I don’t know what that is. Could you explain that?
Skye Blue 14:44
Oh, that one is a Brazilian Butt Lift. It’s where they take the fat from your stomach and put it into either your ass or your boobs.
Dallas 14:52
Oh, interesting. So that’s a trendy thing lately. Yeah. So trendy. The abbreviation is is a by word it sounds like.
Skye Blue 15:01
Yeah, exactly. No, it really got popularized around Kim Kardashians like uprise because they’re like tiny waist big art. Yeah, tiny waist big ass was huge.
Dallas 15:15
Interesting. So are there any other trending things of that order? That would be interesting to tell fans about?
Skye Blue 15:23
Um, I’m not certain I think BBL is probably the biggest one. Other than that, it’s just getting a boob job. Because everybody wants to hourglass figure nowadays. But yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, it’s really whatever a woman wants to do with her body. It’s just becoming more and more common, because I think we’re just seeing more and more plastic surgery successes on social media, and people are more open about it now.
Dallas 15:53
Do you have fans making suggestions along those lines? Like I’d love to see you with this in such low core aspects?
Skye Blue 16:01
Oh, yeah. No, I mean, I used to think about it all the time. When I first started, because I was a bit skinnier. I was like, man, people keep commenting on my class, maybe I’ll just go and get like, and as put in, I’m very happy I waited because I hit second puberty. And it just came without me having to get the surgery. So I saved a couple 1000. Yeah, I think at a certain point, fans commenting on your appearance kind of kind of takes a toll and might change the way you think about things or the things that you want to do with your body.
Dallas 16:36
Do you think it’s necessary to have a thick skin to be a porn star?
Skye Blue 16:40
Oh, definitely, I think you need to have a thick skin in any aspect of the adult industry, because you’re putting your whole body out there. So if you’re going to be you know, susceptible to every single comment that somebody messages, you’re gonna have a rough time, like I really had to just stop looking at Reddit, stop looking at my comments and just kind of move about my day. Rather than focusing on them. I used to have days where I’d like go through Reddit and get super depressed.
Dallas 17:12
So you have to have a kind of tunnel vision and shut a lot of that stuff out then. Now, it’s interesting in the bio that your lovely publicist was kind enough to send over she mentioned that you were discovered as it is put here by Holly Randall, a famous director and photographer. So tell us a little bit about that. In what sense? Did she discover you.
Skye Blue 17:35
Um, so I was still camming. And doing all of that I was a smaller known creator. I still have blue hair. At the time, Holly had seen all of my modeling posts on Instagram and reached out to me about an opportunity with Playboy. And I was so excited Playboy, I grew up looking at Playboy and just absolutely adored it. So, of course, it was like yes, I would love to, obviously, she was like, we can’t have you have blue hair. So you’re going to have to change that. So I dyed my hair for Playboy. And that was kind of the start of like me, really understanding the mainstream side of the adult business. And I absolutely loved it after that. And I was in Playboy, I started getting, you know, asked all the time for other companies, and it just all kind of went from there.
Dallas 18:30
So that’s interesting. So it was Holly Randall herself who kind of broke the news, so to speak, that the blue hair was going to be a liability if you wanted to go in certain directions then.
Skye Blue 18:40
Yeah, definitely. I mean, I had always known that there were some companies that just weren’t willing to work with me because it was seen more as alternative but I think it was just such an incredible opportunity. I was like, Sure, whatever, its playboy.
Dallas 18:58
Was there any other sort of I don’t know tough love advice that you got from her or somebody else about something that you should do that you didn’t love hearing but you knew that it was something you should probably do.
Skye Blue 19:12
Um, I think at the time it was kind of when I was looking for an agent I was going to go and like start getting more tattoos and they told me I should hold off on it I should take all my piercings out you know, really encapsulate the girl next door and I had been alternative for so long that it just felt like a slap in the face like Why wouldn’t they like me as I am but you know to sell your essence to such a like large array of people you really kind of have to be a little bit in the mold. So it was I kind of got it. It took a very long time for me to respect what they said.
Dallas 19:56
And you do have tattoos on your on your palms, which I know only because you You did a podcast where somebody noticed this and sort of had a discussion about them.
Skye Blue 20:06
Yeah, well, my tattoos I still have from when I was 18, I had the grand idea that if I ever got a big girl job, I would need tattoos that weren’t in a place where you could see them. So I was like, Oh, if I go to shake someone’s hand, they’ll never see it. Perfect. Actually, to this day, a lot of people don’t realize that I have them up until like, I do something to where it’s very noticeable.
Dallas 20:32
Right. Now, it sounds like from what you said, you’ve kind of had to suppress some of your alt characteristics to to enter into the mainstream. But I’m sure some of that still lives on what what are the most alt things about the current version of you?
Skye Blue 20:52
Um, I guess that would just be like, besides my appearance, it would be everything that like I like to do. Like, I still love all of my anime. I love reading comic books. I love playing video games. Other than that, and be like my choices in life, like living in an old church doing crazy outrageous things, because I can’t do that to my appearance.
Dallas 21:21
I think I’ve heard you say in another interview, I think maybe it was with X critic connecting to what you said there that you were a big fan of science fiction. So I wondered what types of science fiction is it Star Wars? It’s Star Trek? Is it like Arthur C? Clarke? What kind of sci fi Do you like the most?
Skye Blue 21:37
Oh, um, I definitely grew up watching Star Trek. I was my favorite thing that came on cable. So I love a lot of that. I also love like Greek mythology. And yeah, really any mythology. I just loved absorbing all of that. I think I grew up reading these books. called War it was about like cat warriors or something very high fantasy. So anything. You know, sci fi, or high fantasy is just my absolute favorite.
Dallas 22:09
Which iteration of Star Trek Do you like the most?
Skye Blue 22:15
I grew up watching the originals. So I’m very partial to those. The newer ones, just because it’s so easy to get sucked in. And the CGI has been so great, has been amazing. But I’m always gonna stick with the OG.
Dallas 22:32
Definitely hard to beat the original Kirk Spock and the rest of the crew. If you could have sex with one Star Trek character in the entire Star Trek universe, who would you pick?
Skye Blue 22:42
Oh, my goodness, I think it has to be Spock. I really think so. Um, especially the newer versions of him. I can’t remember. I think it’s Zachary Quinto that plays him. But there’s something about like the straight eyebrows and like emotional wall that just makes me want to tear it down.
Dallas 23:04
You’re right. And somehow it seems like Spock would be able to do crazy things in the bedroom, right? Like he’s got some sort of concentration like some sort of Zen thing, like some sort of tantra esque stuff could be going on. Somehow you get that vibe at a Vulcan would be able to do that in the bedroom. Yeah, but that makes sense. Definitely, definitely. So we’re recording this in April, but may of course, is masturbation month, at least in the United States. So tell me masturbation what has been your attitude towards self love? Did it evolve? Do you ever have any guilt about it? Do you always embrace it just give us a little idea of
Skye Blue 23:42
that. I think when I was younger, I felt a little bit of guilt about it. Particularly just because like my mom never talked about anything sexual with us. So I kind of had my own like exploration of fine finding that myself, thankfully, again, I grew up on Tumblr. So at that time, it was kind of like tumblers heyday for porn and all of that, and an expression of self love. So I had a really great experience with it of like, being able to see this community of people talking about like, how it’s very good, and you shouldn’t be ashamed of it. So I didn’t really have too much of a problem in that category. And then as I got older, I started, you know, using masturbation as a form of like clarity, or because I was ever having like, a bad day, or I couldn’t make a decision. I was like, Alright, I need some Postcomm clarity. Like, let’s go rub one out and come back.
Dallas 24:36
Interesting. So you were chasing that kind of post orgasm. The refractory period, for lack of a better, a better term? Yeah. So that’s interesting, because the cliche is that it’s more more profound for men that period like there’s a more of a distinct line in the sand. But there there there is for you to personally then a dramatic then shift from life. orgasm to post orgasm then of mood and,
Skye Blue 25:03
yeah, definitely, um, I think it also really, like helps all the time. Whenever I’m like fiending over a boy. I’m like, Alright, am I just horny? Or do I actually like them. But I tend to realize that like, if I get really stressed out or something, it’s a way to like de stress myself and think a little bit clearer. At least for me, I know with men, it’s a lot to do with like hormones and testosterone. But for me, it’s more like of, I guess, a self love ritual, where I’m just like, alright, let’s like just focus on myself focus on like, fueling my body rather than what’s going on my in my head. And then after we can try and figure it out.
Dallas 25:45
So it’s almost it’s self love on multiple levels in the most literal level, but also like a self care type. That’s also very interesting what you’re saying. So you might have like a crush on a boy or somebody want to say crush, but you’re interested in a guy. And you’re so if I’m understanding correctly, to make sure that it’s not just oh, he’s so hot. You have a fantasy, sort of purge those feelings. And then in that moment, after you can better assess whether there’s actually something there. Is that Is that what you’re saying?
Skye Blue 26:15
Yeah, no, exactly. I love using that method. Because sometimes you just get overwhelmed and like the feelings of something new. And it’s exciting, and you want to like them. But if it’s just all about sex, you’re not like thinking about them as an actual person and how they’re treating you. So like, get sex out of the way, have an orgasm, and then focus on how they’re actually treating me rather than just the sexual aspect.
Dallas 26:42
It’s funny, I think it’s sometimes easy for us who work in this injury industry in some way or another to lose sight of the fact that in some sense, our industry is all about masturbation, maybe not entirely, but you know, in the end, that’s what we’re making, we’re making something that predominantly is used as a masturbatory aid. Is that Is that something that you think about sometimes? And do you find that a little surreal in a way?
Skye Blue 27:04
Yeah, no, definitely. Especially now that I’ve been like working more and doing solo. Like, I’ve never really thought about it all too much when I was doing porn, because I was so focused on like, the sex act itself, but now that I’m doing more solo, and you know, I’m doing customs where people are like, explaining their fantasy and asking me to reenact it. I’m like, wow, this is really all just about someone masturbating. Even if it’s just like me masturbating, and really like, working out a fantasy for another person. It’s kind of surreal to think about, cuz, I mean, when I was just doing straight up porn, I was never thinking of that I was only thinking of like, alright, we’re doing this today. Let me get all my positions down. Let me focus on the connection with the person that I’m on the film with, and not even thinking of what the person was going to be doing. That’s like, consuming this,
Dallas 28:04
right. So obviously, yeah, as you said, this is something that you have thought about, and I’m sure obviously it’s more obvious in the cam dynamic whether you’re you’re directly interacting with someone this is probably a strange question, but is there anything that has surprised or puzzled you about male masturbation that you find interesting, in contrast to female masturbation?
Skye Blue 28:27
Um, yeah, I definitely have seen like a lot more shame about it. You know, people not knowing that they can use toys. I feel like from a female’s perspective, the second you start masturbating, it all starts to become toys. So with men, I always was so surprised at like the hesitation to use a toy or really dive into like more pleasuring aspects of masturbation rather than just your hand. I always found it funny to what what men like to masturbate to is always so different, and you really can’t put a pin on it. I feel like now that there is more porn being made for women, it’s a little bit more diverse. But in the beginning, it was really there wasn’t a lot. So that was very eye opening to me.
Dallas 29:25
Has anyone ever described to you a fantasy that seemed so asexual to you that you couldn’t even imagine how someone could find something sexual in that but they were somehow
Skye Blue 29:39
Yeah, um, when I first started doing like customs and stuff like that, I had a lot of people asking me to do degrading things. Where like, I would comment on their appearance, or I would call them a loser and I was like, this makes no sense. Like, how is a person ever meant to masturbate? This this I’m fully clothed and just I’m calling them a loser. And it took me a really long time like to understand kinks once i But once I started working like more in the kink realm like it really started to make more and more sense. Do you yourself
Dallas 30:15
have any fetishes or kinks that that you think might surprise people or that sometimes even surprise yourself when you think about them?
Skye Blue 30:24
Um, I can say, I’ve done so like because I worked in fetish for a while and did a lot of fetish videos. When I lived in New York, I kind of got to explore all of my kinks that way. And I kind of realized that I was a little bit more vanilla than the normal person. I think just working in it and figuring out like in a really safe space, what you like and don’t like to be super empowering. But now there’s not really many to where I’m like, oh, yeah, like I want this every day. It’s a very occasional thing if I had to say if there was one like fetish or something would be that like I watch a lot of hentai.
Dallas 31:12
Interesting, although I have heard a lot of porn stars say that. And the reason they give is because they don’t know anyone in it. It’s a complete fantasy. So they’re not saying, Oh, I know that guy. And he’s actually not as CMC are those two people actually don’t get along. Is that a factor for you, too?
Skye Blue 31:31
Oh, definitely. When I started in straight porn, I started just watching gay porn, because I was like, alright, like, There’s no one I know in this. And then as soon as like, the more bye boys started becoming prevalent in our industry, it was like, great. Now I know all of these people I’d rather just try and like masturbate to someone something or someone that I have no idea who they are.
Dallas 31:51
So would it be drew in some sense to say that being in porn almost ruins porn, at least as a viewer?
Skye Blue 31:59
Yeah, a little. Um, I think the only things I can really watch now if I do watch actual people is like extremely amateur, where I’m like, Alright, this is obviously a couple that like, does this and they’re just filming their kinky life. Like, when I watch actual studio sets. I’m like, oh, man, this is a really long intro. That must have been a really long day for them. Oh, wow. Like, I know, these two people don’t get along. Like this is so crazy. Watching them together, things like that. Like it’s it’s very easy to be purse, like, persuaded not to watch porn because of your time onset.
Dallas 32:41
Now, you of course, have worked with a lot of very high profile directors in your career. I’m thinking of people like Axel Braun. You already mentioned masons and other one Greg Lansky, who used to be at Vixen, of course. So those in those three in particular are famous for I think being very fastidious, perhaps even perfectionists. So talk about that talk about working with directors like that those high wattage very exacting directors and what that experience is like.
Skye Blue 33:15
It’s very rewarding to see the end masterpiece. I think a lot of times during the events, I will get a little sassy. I mean, I always understand the vision and what it’s going towards. It’s just the day itself can be a little grueling. If I have to redo an intro scene 10 times to get the perfect shot. It’s like, I know half the people skip through the intro. But I understand the vision, I get it. If I was making a porno and directing, I would want someone to do the same thing for me. So I always just expect a very long day try and set myself up mentally I’m like, Alright, we’re going to be there. 16 hours, we’re going to do it, it’s going to be fine. It’s going to be beautiful in the end, and it always is beautiful in the end.
Dallas 34:04
Right? I would imagine that when you’re having to do something 10 times like you were mentioning there like particularly an intro. Is it hard to get yourself back into that frame of mind each time of like, okay, I’m you know, I’m feeling sexy. I’m teasing the audience a little bit here. And you know, you want it to be just as just as alluring the 10th time as it was the first but that must be hard to get to that space the 10th time when you’re really tired. It’s whatever time of the day.
Skye Blue 34:35
Oh, it definitely is. I can’t say that sometimes it feels very unsexy to have to do it over and over again. And some days on set does do feel kind of unsexy because we’re taking a really long time or what have you. I think the biggest thing for me that I love when directors do is get the sex done first I’m not waiting around on set hungry all day or like with logic by the end of the day. And if you’d like I give a better performance after that for the intro, doing it from the intro into it can just take so long that by the time that you get there, you’re like, Oh man, I’m exhausted, this intro is probably going to look better than the actual main event.
Dallas 35:25
So that’s interesting. That’s so that’s probably kind of counterintuitive to viewers who might think that it would be easier to do the what is you see as the intro first and then do the sex, but for the reasons you’ve explained? It sometimes is smoother when you do it the other way around? Yep. What’s something else that you think might surprise people about how porn movies are shot?
Skye Blue 35:48
Um, I think the amount of time that it takes I think people think that it’s like really cut and dry and easy, you know, they only see like 45 minutes to an hour of something. So they’re like, Oh, it must have taken like, two hours. I’ve been on set for like 20 hours before. Just to make sure we capture everything in one day, I’ve had sets that takes three days just to get one film done. So I think that that would surprise people a whole lot. Just everything that goes into it. You know, the time for hair and makeup, the time for all of the photos, the time for the intro, and anything else under the sun that the director might want?
Dallas 36:33
Is there any specific movie or performance where you are specifically most proud of your acting in that particular scene?
Skye Blue 36:42
Um, yeah, I think the feature I did for less cinema, the taste of kannst was probably one of my favorite ones tacked in, I did love that they actually like, had a script written by a Hollywood professional, it was very cool. And that they actually cared about the acting a lot. They would give us breaks in between, and really went above and beyond to make it a great film. But I think my acting in that one was probably the best. I could relate to the character so much. It told the story. I understood where it was going. And it was relatable to me.
Dallas 37:24
Now, in terms of other challenges on onset, I know that you have worked with dread, who is a very famous performer, I’m sure many people are most everyone who’s listening to this podcast will know who dread is. But he’s very famous, obviously, for being very, very, very well endowed. In a previous interview, you said that he’s such a sweetheart, I’ve worked with him for his own personal website before he’s terrific, but Oh my.dot.it was intense. So tell us a little bit about that. Is it intimidating that first day were you when you’re going to shoot with a guy who is as massive as dread is?
Skye Blue 38:02
Oh, extremely intimidating. I was super scared, because especially not knowing anything about dread before. You just know his dick size, there’s not really all too much they tell you other than that, when you get on sex, they don’t want you, I guess getting scared off. But I wound up being not as bad as I thought it was going to be. And he’s just so sweet and understanding and made me feel so safe there us like if you want to stop at anytime we can, we don’t have to continue going. I know that I’m a lot. So I’m just hearing that made it a lot easier to really finish the scene. But it’s super intimidating. We’re walking up to a man who’s who’s remember is the size of my forearm.
Dallas 38:50
Right, and as you say, there’s an interesting contrast between the name dread which conjures up all these images of someone kind of terrifying. And the man himself who by all accounts, including yours is like total sweetheart. nicest guy in the world. Which I think you can see in any interview that he does, as well. You’ve joked before that you’re bad at math. So I wondered, is does that does that ever come back to haunt you in a professional sense?
Skye Blue 39:19
Oh, my goodness. Um, occasionally, yeah. I’ll get confused on like, let’s say, the amount of money I’m going to be paid out back when COVID was happening, we’d be paid for our tests as well and had looked at my check a lot. And I’d be like, Hey, I think you paid me extra. And you’d be like, no, no, that’s the right amount. It was just very hard for me to crunch numbers in my head. Like that. I think other than that, I there’s not very many shins were like math comes into porn. So I don’t really have to worry too much about a
Dallas 40:05
good point. You’ve also been very candid that you’ve had you’ve explored your sexuality to a great deal, you’ve had a lot of sexual partners. And my impression is that you’re a person who owns the sexual side of herself, and there isn’t a sense of shame, or that someone should be ashamed for such a thing. Why do you think it is that there’s still this strange double standard that women are judged differently for having a lot of sexual partners than men are?
Skye Blue 40:33
Um, I think a lot of it can just be the way that you’re raised. I grew up with a mother who was dating at the time, so I always saw men come and go and didn’t think anything of it. Just like, I think a lot of religions kind of preach virginity, and that it’s like this pure special thing. When it’s not really anything at all, it’s just a, you know, made up concepts to keep people pure. So I think a lot of it goes back to like church, family raising, I think anybody that’s, you know, kind of gotten away from where they grew up. And like, is able to explore different parts of themselves can see that, like, it really doesn’t have to do anything with anything.
Dallas 41:25
Is there any specific archetype of man that You have discovered you in particular, find particularly attractive, whether it’s a guy of a certain height, or a certain look, or whatever it may be?
Skye Blue 41:38
Um, I think for me, it’s always been personality, I can’t say that I have a certain type, every single man that I’ve dated, looks nothing like each other. They’re all like tall, short, large, super skinny. There’s, it’s all in between. So for me, it’s always been like a very charismatic personality, to talk to you for hours. Super hilarious. It’s my sense of humor, stuff like that.
Dallas 42:07
I know that you’ve worked a number of times with Kayden Kross. So talk a little bit about that what she liked to work with.
Skye Blue 42:15
Oh, she’s very meticulous she has, like a vision in her head that she wants to capture and does anything in her means to get a captured. very visionary, I have to say, they’re super long days, just like the other iconic directors, but you know, at the end of the day, it’s going to look absolutely amazing. And herself. She’s super sweet. I have gotten so much advice from her. I started picking up books that she told me to read, sweetheart through and through. And I just always love what comes out of her work.
Dallas 42:57
Or movies always tend to, or many of them do always tend to have a certain psychological edge to them. And the characters have a lot of depth to them. And that seems to be an interesting theme and porn over the last decade or so. Psychological themes and things like family roleplay, and so forth. Is that something that you’ve enjoyed delving into the psychological side of porn?
Skye Blue 43:22
Definitely, because I think a lot of porn already is psychological. I mean, if we if we go back to the masturbation cost, concept, like it all revolves around one person masturbating to this film. So it’s psychological in itself already. You know, if once a person sees a pair of fishnets, psychologically, they might be turned on because it’s their fetish and other person might not. So I’ve always been interested in all sorts of taboo and things like that. And what makes people tick, I love being able to like act out all these little different things. Because it’s at the end of the day, it’s just incredibly fun to do.
Dallas 44:01
Something you said in an interview I think you did with the not rated radio podcast was you noted that it’s very important to remember that porn is not reality, it’s performance. So one, something that happens often in the fantasy world of on screen porn that you would say, people at home, do not try this. This is just for the professionals.
Skye Blue 44:29
Oh, my God, I want to say some of the positions are just extremely unrealistic. The Amazonian and like reverse cowgirl are like, especially on your toes, like I can’t last more than two or three minutes like that right now. I can’t imagine anybody in their actual home life being able to pull that off or Yeah, and you know, I think a lot of people get discouraged by what they see in porn because they’re like, Oh, well I can’t fuck like that. And like I I used to go to the gym and train and just do squats all fucking day so that I could fucking so that I could do reverse cowgirl. Well, I think that’s something that people should really take into account. Right.
Dallas 45:15
And I suppose people often forget that the prevalence of that position, at least as I understand it, is because it allows everything to be on display in a way it wouldn’t be with most other positions. Yes, exactly. Amazonian I must confess, I’m not sure what that is. What is that
Skye Blue 45:32
it’s a similar reverse cowgirl position for the woman but the man who legs are all the way back. I can only imagine that for a guy you would lose blood flow in your legs very easily. That and it’s the same as reverse cowgirl for a girl where it’s just straight up squatting for God knows how long
Dallas 45:50
you’ve worked a lot with a vixen brands and Vixen, of course, is a very, very prominent label studio company these days with a very distinctive aesthetic very luxurious. Is the atmosphere different on a vixen set? Does that does that extend to the sort of ambiance on the set so to speak?
Skye Blue 46:11
Oh, it definitely does. I feel like I’m treated like a princess when I’m there. Honestly, the makeup artists are amazing that they hire. They’ve cut snacks for days. I feel like a lot of times it’s some parents had smite skimp on certain things where like vixen doesn’t, they’ve never had like a shortage of staff. I’ve always since the beginning had a woman there to be like my intimacy coordinator. Not just that, but I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve walked onto a set and been like starving and they’re like, here we have these little Kraft mac and cheese things like Oh, well thank you. Um, whereas vixen will have like fresh fruit and stuff like that if you’re hungry, the order you whatever you want. It’s definitely that that I just don’t think a lot of companies might take into account or they just want to get you in and out as quick as possible. So they don’t really think about anything like that. Right,
Dallas 47:09
right. Now, of course, in the modern age, there are tons and tons of social media platforms, and it’s almost required for a star to be on all of them to promote herself. Is there a particular platform that you enjoy working on the most?
Skye Blue 47:26
I love Instagram, but I have been kicked off eight times instead. So I can’t say it’s my favorite if I have to come up with the one that seems to work the best and I’ve never been kicked off of it would definitely be Twitter.
Dallas 47:40
Definitely Twitter’s kind of the public square even even now. I know it’s had some bad press lately, but it still has that that. What about tick tock? Have you embraced tick tock that’s very fashionable with the younger generation. Yeah,
Skye Blue 47:53
I’m just a consumer. I love scrolling through and having my feed but I don’t know I love creating beautiful things for myself. And I just think tick tock is such a churn and burn kind of thing where comedy thrives and just sitting there and being a hot girl thrives. But I just couldn’t ever bring myself to like do any of the crazy little dances or anything like that. I was like, Oh, I have a certain way I make my content and I just don’t think it would fit their algorithm. Do things
Dallas 48:27
like tick tock in a funny way make you feel old even though you’re not old by any normal conventional reckoning. But
Skye Blue 48:34
know a little i Whenever a new platform comes up, which they always do. I always feel like I’m a little out of the loop. I know girls that started on Tik Tok when it first started and now they have like so many viewers and I’m like damn, talk if I had only just like caved and done it. But I’m just not a I guess it does make me feel old because I’m just not like a super editing person like that. I find it incredibly mundane when I have to go through for like a 10 second clip and edit that way.
Dallas 49:09
Do you ever project into the future and imagine where you might be in a couple of years do you hope to be a male performer someday and still shooting like Nina Hartley is in you know, in your in her 60s or whatever it might be.
Skye Blue 49:22
Um, I would hope I’m still doing my own content by that point. I don’t know if at that point, I can be working for studios still, that would be intense. Um, I try and stay grounded in his present as possible. But when I do look into the future, the most thing that I hope for is that I’m just happy and what I’m doing.
Dallas 49:45
So when you say you couldn’t really imagine yourself working for studios that that later point is that just because that’s ever so much more demanding and difficult on so many levels, or?
Skye Blue 49:56
Yeah, definitely. I mean longer hours. way more intense poses, you know, I just I would think I mean, this is this is me going on your five I would think after God 15 to 20 years and it that I would just be completely burnt out of the studio work.
Dallas 50:16
Right? I do. I do think that’s something that sometimes fans forget and you’ve touched on this already is that you know, being in a profession like this, it is kind of like being an athlete. It’s very physically demanding like you were talking about with the with the reverse cowgirl. So do you have to have a pretty rigorous physical fitness routine? I think you touched about on that a little bit earlier.
Skye Blue 50:38
Yeah, when I was working for studios almost predominantly not doing anything else. I was in the gym at least five days a week to try and keep my stamina up. I noticed that if I didn’t, like continue to stay in the gym, I would get winded onset so quickly. I need to take breaks the day would be longer, or just couldn’t keep up with the other performer.
Dallas 51:02
Definitely, definitely. Yeah. It’s it’s interesting. There’s so many things that go into being a porn star that people do not consider when they’re watching that lovely, final product that looks so nice and seems so smooth and everyone seems so like, you know, reverse cowgirl girl just happen so easily in this scene, not necessarily the case. So we often like to do thing as at the very end of podcasts where we ask some fun lighthearted sort of bite sized questions. So we’ll toss a few of these your direction see what you think. So what would be your preferred Coffee order or tea or whatever you prefer to drink?
Skye Blue 51:41
I normally do black coffee with honey Anna. Nice.
Dallas 51:44
Nice, very good. So a little hint of sweetness there. So is there a point where it gets too sweet? Or do you have like a perfect balance that you’d like to get with? With the honey?
Skye Blue 51:57
Oh, no. Definitely a perfect balance if it gets too sweet. I just can’t I’d never finish it.
Dallas 52:02
Definitely got to get that right for sure. So what are three things that you could never live without?
Skye Blue 52:10
Um, I think my phone Oh my goodness. My phone my there’s a really tough question. My phone, my car and I think my lingerie collection.
Dallas 52:35
Lingerie collection. There you go essential for a porn star. Right. All right. Yeah. I think in a way you already touched on this, but what is the very nerdiest thing about you?
Skye Blue 52:48
It’s definitely the amount of anime and video games that I play.
Dallas 52:51
There you go. So what are some of your favorite video games?
Skye Blue 52:56
Um, I absolutely love Animal Crossing. That one’s got to be my favorite. I’ve been playing it since it was on the GameCube Legend of Zelda Luigis Mansion Kirby.
Dallas 53:09
Nice so what was the very first video game system that you had when you were a kid? What was your formative game gaming system?
Skye Blue 53:17
Oh, it was the GameCube very nice
Dallas 53:19
very nice what’s your favorite curse word really come on that’s a good choice that’s a nice concussive one, doesn’t it? It kind of lands doesn’t it? That’s an interesting topic. I mean, there are some of those words that in some contests texts can seem kind of sexist or aggressive but properly deployed, you know with mutual consent can be very sexy. I think Conte is kind of one of those right? Might do the same with with slot I suppose. Contextually?
Skye Blue 53:54
Oh, yeah, definitely.
Dallas 53:58
Let’s see here. Um, so what’s the most common interview question that you get? You’ve done a lot of interviews.
Skye Blue 54:07
Um I think I think in the beginning, it was if I am natural, and then it quickly became the dread question.
Dallas 54:24
So I ticked that box there. Yeah. So the natural question in a way that’s interesting, because it’s almost philosophical like what does that even mean in a sense, right, I suppose what they mean is like, rest of that kind of thing, I guess is what they’re getting at. But like who is completely natural ever in a sense?
Skye Blue 54:45
Yeah, no, nowadays, I mean, from lip filler to just play small things like Botox is I don’t think there’s quite unnatural but I think they always did ask about my, my friend.
Dallas 54:56
Right. What’s your favorite holiday?
Skye Blue 55:00
Um, I think for me, it’s Halloween. I love being able to drag us.
Dallas 55:04
So what have been some of your most memorable Halloween costumes?
Skye Blue 55:09
Um, I think Sailor Moon was a really great one. I also did Bernie Sanders. Cheer. Very good. Um, what’s another really good one? What am I and my ex is dressed up as Rocky for?
Dallas 55:31
Oh, there you go. Are you a fan of the movie? Oh, yeah. Have you attended many of the Midnight showings and done the whole participatory aspect and things?
Skye Blue 55:41
Yeah, definitely.
Dallas 55:42
Nice. Do you do any of the other participatory cinema stuff? I mean, you’ve ever gone to see the room or one of those kinds of things, those other cult movies? Or is that your main cult movie?
Skye Blue 55:52
I think that’s just my main cult movie. I’m always interested in how they like make movies I used to love in universal. Orlando, they have like the whole monster movie making walkthrough, which is very fun. As far as like going out of my way for it, I can’t say that. That’s something I do.
Dallas 56:14
Right? And then last year, what’s your biggest guilty pleasure?
Skye Blue 56:20
Oh, um, I think for me, it’s it’s definitely shopping. I just love going into a lingerie store and picking out new things. Even though I have so much laundry could drown in it.
Skye Blue 56:42
So it’s something that I know like, I don’t need to do all the time. But every time I do it, it just feels so good.
Dallas 56:49
So is it to the point where the laundry you’re having a hard time finding places to store it? Is it absolutely everywhere? Is it that kind of deal?
Skye Blue 56:55
Oh, yeah, definitely. And I mean, porn sets already made it to where I had so much of it. Because they always ask for different things when you’re on set. So you need to be stocked up with like all of the different colors. But whenever I go and buy like a luxury piece of lingerie, I’m always like, Oh, God, I can’t even wear this sunset, it’ll get ruined.
Dallas 57:19
Well, everybody has that one thing that they can’t, can’t resist, right. So as we wind down here, I just wanted also to give you a chance, first of all to talk about any other awesome projects that you have coming up that you might want to tell people about and of course, to let people know where they can find you on social media and follow you and keep up with all your goings on.
Skye Blue 57:41
Yeah, um, this year, I’m really excited,
Skye Blue 57:44
I had the opportunity to write a couple scripts and possibly direct for SLR the VR company. So I’m still in the middle of doing all of that hopefully it pans out correctly. It’s something I’m really excited and looking forward to. And then other than that, you can find me on skype who official.com kind of like my landing page, it has everything my Instagram, Twitter, all that jazz. There
Dallas 58:09
you go. And of course, people can also go to adult empire.com They can pop in your name and find all kinds of awesome stuff, including many of the movies that we’ve talked about here today and many more to come. I have no doubt. Well, sky blue. It’s been a great pleasure to talk to you. Thank you so much for being on our podcast here today.
Skye Blue 58:29
All right, thank you so much.
