On doing new things in porn:

So everything recent isn’t new because I’ve already went as far as I can physically go. So I think anything new might be a person rather than an act,  like new people to me instead of crazy things, because I think I think I’ve went as crazy as I can go.

On never meeting your heroes:

So on the performance style, there’s been a few people, male and female that I’ve worked with. And there was a lot of theatrics in the sex style. And I kind of like to bring a little bit of realism to my scenes just because, you know, if I’m in it, why not enjoy it? So it kind of like was a little bit of a turn off to just barely touch someone, and then they start faking orgasms and things like that. So it’s kind of hard to get around. And I’m like, oh, no, I thought we would have a connection, but you’re not letting me connect, you know? So yeah, the performance can be a little over the top sometimes.

On how her performance style has evolved:

It’s really funny because I went through some pictures of me from my early days today. And I noticed that I had a whole different expression and I was like, so bright eyed and bushy tailed, and like super excited to be there, where I kind of had like this like eager little hungry look. But now I try to connect a lot more with what’s going on, the person that I’m playing, the role that I’m in and all that stuff. So I try to I guess turn into the character more. But in the beginning, I was down to just kind of hungry and down to try everything and really excited, so I kind of have a “deer in the headlights” look. But now I’m laser-focused and I got it.

On professionalism:

I think I’ve always kind of had that sense of professionalism in me like from being younger and all things like that. My parents taught me,  you know, if you’re on time, you’re late, so I always tried to show up early. I always had good grades and perfect attendance and things like that in school. So I just kind of brought it over into my career.

And I think early on when I joined porn, I chose to take it seriously and with that you got to be professional. You’re on people’s dollar, on their time. When you’re late, you make the whole day late because it’s a whole production set. So you know, I just took it really seriously and I guess just treat people how I’d want to be treated. I’d hate to run a production site and like my talent shows up late and I’m paying extra fees so yeah, just being courteous.

On porn features versus gonzo:

Sometimes I dread the gonzo type of scenarios where it’s just your fucking some steps-something this week or whatever. Because I would like those scenarios even as basic as they are to be more realistic. I don’t know how many people actually fuck their stepmom, but . . . so it’s just hard to wrap my brain around those scenarios. But on the other hand, the scripts, they are longer days. They’re pretty exhausting. The dialogue is more important than the sex. So it’s mentally draining. So I am thankful to get the short days sometimes.

On the porn stage name she almost chose:

One of them was like a joke from college. My friends used to say because I was like the quiet one, they’re like, “Oh, you’re probably going to get into porn and your porn name would be Jungle J.” So I ran that past my agent and he said “Fuck no!” so thank you for the “no” because I would be Jungle J right now.

On learning things by observation:

Definitely did watch everybody and everything that they do. I even do makeup and I only started doing makeup because people would do my makeup terribly. So I would observe when somebody would do it good, what they were doing. So I feel like a sponge. I feel like it’s the smartest thing to do whenever you’re around anybody is to absorb what they do. You can you can learn a new skill, a new trait, all of that jazz. So, yes, I’m watching everybody picking up notes of the things that they do right, the things that they do wrong.

On self-care:

I am a self-care queen. I have about I’d say 60 bath bombs from different stores, like Lush or Nectar Bath Treats or wherever, but I always take a bath especially if I’m going to work. I take a long bath and I give myself the time so I’ll wake up earlier. I’ll wake up like sometimes 3 a.m. 4 a.m. if I have to just so I can get that time in the bathtub to just chill relax, put on a face mask, all of that jazz. I need to make sure I have my bath time. It’s essential.

On HBO’s Winning Time

It’s kind of funny because we shot that a little bit like when COVID was still kind of like a thing. So you had to get the nose swab and all that stuff and kind of stay 10 feet apart. So I was kind of excited to be out of the house and doing something. And when I got on set, there was a lot of like topless actors and stuff like that. So I was like, “Look, yeah!” [and] took my top off. And they they kept trying to give me a robe. And I was so confused. I didn’t realize that mainstream is a little different [ . . ]

So since I had a dialogue, they were like, “No, you need to cover up.” But I was like, “No, it’s fine.” And they’re like, “Cover up.” So I probably offended people with my boobies, but it was great. And then everybody around them was really professional. I was kind of shocked that everybody just kind of carried on like they’re used to just doing the sex in the movies. They handled the sex in mainstream more professionally than I expected them to. So that was very lovely.

On the reasons she became an adult performer:

I wasn’t really sexually active before porn, and I didn’t really watch porn, either. I was just very sexually curious and kind of frustrated because I wasn’t sexually active. So, you know, I kind of like had a few experiences, but like nothing really major.

And when I got approached to do porn, I was like, “Oh, wow, I could learn how to give a blowjob.” I could do all the sex that I want to do, but not in a way that’s kind of messed up. Like a lot of people that I knew were cheating on each other or just like fucking around. And I didn’t really want to be cheated on or cheat with someone or fuck around in a big group of people. So I just thought it was safer and better. It was like, “Oh, I can get all the ass and pussy I like but in a controlled environment”. And so I really thought it was a very smart move. I didn’t consider it rebellious at all. I just thought it was like taking the middleman out.

On her first deep throat scene:

I got booked for a blowjob scene pretty early on. I think it was like my first week or so in porn. And I was like, “Oh, that’s weird. How are they going to shoot just a blowjob? I guess the scene’s only going to be like two minutes.”

So I went on to set and then I guess I was supposed to give the bartender a blowjob. So I go back there. And they’re like, “Okay, get on your knees.” And I was like, “Okay, I know this part.” And then they kind of had to coach me through the whole thing because I didn’t know what to do. And they’re like, “Open your mouth!” And then the guy kind of like shoved it in my mouth. And I was like, “What are you doing?” Like, oh my God, he’s trying to kill me in there. Like yes, honey, you’re supposed to do this, like drool if you have to.

And I just kind of like remember being like super stressed out and just like sweating and not really wanting to get like messed up or anything like that. And kind of being offended that the guy was just trying to make a mess on my face and I was like, “What are you doing?” And then they took a break and kind of like we’re like this is how it goes. This is what you’re doing and like showed me an actual video of like a real proper blowjob and I was like “Oh, I’m so sorry for wasting your footage!” I got to redo and I figured it out, but yeah, now now I no longer have those problems.

New things and new people

Dallas

You did an interview on Alexis Texas’s podcast, where you said, “I’m a super curious person. I want to try everything at least once.” So I wondered what something interesting and knew that you’ve tried recently?

Ana Foxxx

So everything recent isn’t new because I’ve already went as far as I can physically go. So I think anything new might be a person rather than an act you know, like new people to me instead of crazy things, because I think I think I’ve went as crazy as I can go.

Dallas

Do you keep a list of people that either you’d like to work with? Do you see people pop up in scenes and say, “Oh, boy, yeah, I’d like to work with him or her?”

Ana

I don’t do that anymore because I’ve learned not to meet your heroes. Sometimes you think someone’s this way but in reality, they’re different. So I used to have a list. But once I went through the list, I was like, wow, I had different expectations. So I kind of like to go into scenes blind and just kind of like experience a person for what they’re doing instead of their reputation. For instance like a lot of people look a lot bigger on camera. I just went to a social event where I was like taller than everyone so I was like wow, that guy’s not as big as I thought he was going to be or people are different.

Differing expectations

Dallas

I think you’ve talked about this in other interviews that a lot of people think that you’re quite petite, but you’re 5’7″, something like that, above average, really, for height for an American woman. So that’s a misconception I think some people have about you. So are some people surprised when they work with you and they see that you’re not 5’1″ or something like that?

Ana

So yes, yeah, I’ve definitely got that comment before that you’re a lot taller or a lot bigger than I thought you were. I guess I photograph small for some reason but it’s really funny half the time I’m in pictures I have to change my shoes so I’m not like towering over people. So we’re kind of like similar height.

Dallas

And you’re right, I have the perception just from like looking at IAFD that male porn stars are not on the whole like, super, super tall. Is that accurate?

Ana

That’s very, very, very accurate. I had a hard time meeting people that were taller than me or as tall as me. And it’s kind of hard performing with someone smaller because my legs are really long so placement is kind of off and things like that. So yeah, it can it can be kind of hard to find taller people all over. It’s important because women are very, very petite and then I think a lot of the men are kind of smaller, on the smaller side.

Dallas

And then you occasionally have that outlier female performer like Maitland ward or somebody who’s like, I don’t know 5’11, probably 6’2″ in heels or something like that.

Ana

There’s very few. There’s very few of us tall ladies in porn.

Never meet your heroes?

Dallas

You were talking there about kind of “never meet your heroes” so I’m sure you don’t want to say any specific names or anything like that, but could you give us us a flavor of an experience like that where you worked with someone? And was it their performance style that wasn’t quite what you thought it would be? Was it their vibe or was it all of the above?

Ana

So on the performance style, there’s been a few people, male and female that I’ve worked with. And there was a lot of like theatrics in the sex style. And I kind of like to bring a little bit of realism to my scenes just because, you know, if I’m in it, why not enjoy it? So it kind of like was a little bit of a turn off to just barely touch someone, and then they start like, you know, faking orgasms and things like that. So it’s kind of hard to get around. And I’m like, oh, no, I thought we would have a connection, but you’re not letting me connect, you know? So yeah, the performance can be a little over the top sometimes.

Evolving performance style

Dallas

I know you’ve been in the industry about a decade now or so, right? And what ways, if any, has your own performance style evolved since those early days?

Ana

Yeah. Oh, god, it’s really funny because I went through some pictures of me from my other date early days today. And I noticed that like, I had a whole different expression and I was like, so bright eyed and bushy tailed, and like super excited to be there, where I kind of had like this like eager little hungry look. But now I try to like connect a lot more with what’s going on, the person that I’m playing, the role that I’m in and all that stuff. So I try to I guess turn into the character more. But in the beginning, I was down to just kind of hungry and down to try everything and really excited so I kind of have a “deer in the headlights” look but now I’m like laser focused and I got it.

Professionalism

Dallas

One of the keywords that always comes up when people talk about you is professionalism. I’ve heard that word come up so many times in relation to you when I was researching this interview. In fact, I was looking through past interviews and there were at least two stars who cited you as one of their role models in porn: Violet Starr and Avery Jane. Both of them had lovely words to say about you. Violet Starr said, “You can see how beautiful she is on the inside. She’s always so kind and professional.” Direct quotation there from violet. So, that sense of acute professionalism — did that develop just as your performance style did as your career progressed? Or were you able to really easily home in on being that intent professional as well showing up on time and all those good things?

Ana

I think I’ve always kind of had that sense of professionalism in me like from, from being younger and all things like that. My parents taught me like, you know, if you’re on ,time you’re late, you know, so I always tried to show up early. I always had like good grades and perfect attendance and things like that in school. I’d hate to like run a production site and like my talent shows up late and I’m paying extra fees so yeah, just being courteous.

Dallas

I would think someone with that intense focus on professionalism would be very frustrated when she ran into other people who aren’t maintaining that same standard. Do you find that hard to put up with this, sort of suffer those kinds of fools, so to speak?

Ana

Yes, it really, really, really does suck when you’re showing up to work to be professional and other people just kind of don’t care or haven’t put in the same amount of work to being professional as you have. It really slows down the day and like you know kind of drags everything down, but even with all that other stuff going on, I just make sure that the very least I know is my line, that my pussy is clean.

Dallas

Now in instances like that, do you have to kind of bite your tongue? Or have you gotten to the point where you’re like, “Okay, I don’t like this kind of behavior. I’m going to tell you. You need to shape up.”

Ana

In those circumstances, I find it better just to bite my tongue because me telling somebody how to do their job, it’s not my job to do that. So if anybody’s going to get yelled at, I’m going to let the director — it just doesn’t make it better just let them do what they do. And then I have my little gossip circle with my friends so I can talk in later and I have a therapist if I need to spill it out. I just let it go because my job is different from theirs so as long as I do my job, I find everything everything’s fine.

“Talking shit”

Dallas

I think once you said kind of jokingly, in that same Alexis Texas interview, you kind of jokingly said, “I do talk shit.” Kind of like making a joke, but you said also that that means that you have to hold yourself to a great standard as well so that you can talk that shit, basically.

Ana

Yes, yes, every time somebody gives me a compliment, I tell them . . . they’re like, “Oh, you look so good. And it’s so good.” Like, because I talk a lot of shit. And if I’m going to open my mouth that I have to, like, you know, put my money where my mouth is. I can’t do the same thing that I find negative. I don’t like people showing up being late — I can’t be late.

Hustler shoot

Dallas

Now, I know a big benchmark for you was quite recently appearing in Hustler. In fact, I saw you tweeting about that today! So tell us a little bit about that.

Ana

It’s really cool because my first ever professional adult picture was shot by Holly Randall, and it went in the Hustler magazine. So it’s kind of like a big circle that now Holly Randall just shot me again. And now I’m on the cover. So it’s pretty awesome. And my work with Holly Randall throughout the years has been a lot of fun and really creative. So I’m really honored that she still wants to be in front of her camera and like this is really cool that I’m on the cover. I went in the Hustler Store to buy make sure I bought a copy of it for me even though they sent me some. I just had to buy. So I’m pretty honored to be on the cover, especially shot by Holly Randall.

Holly Randall

Dallas

So what is it about Holly Randall that makes her such a special photographer?

Ana

Oh, Holly is such a sweetheart. And she’s really kind and she super cares about every little detail that goes into her shoot and her assistant Amber’s just fucking fire so her whole team is great and they’re fierce women. She always gets the best makeup artist and like the best locations and everything and and just like the dialogue on set with Holly makes it a lot easier. She’s very low key and very chill. So it’s just an easy day.

Dallas

She’s also, of course, a very good podcaster and you’ve appeared a few times on her podcasts as well.

Ana

I love, love, love her podcast [Unfiltered With Holly Randall]. Her podcast is like one of my favorites for sure. I’ve learned a lot from listening to Holly’s podcast and from the different points of view from different people in and around the sex industry. It’s just really, it’s really beautiful.

The Ana Foxxx podcast?

Dallas

It’s kind of the gold standard. It really has everything there. She talks to all sorts of different people and really so sex positive. It really represents the industry so, so well. Could you ever envision yourself hosting a podcast or doing something like that?

Ana

I definitely could. I’ve actually thought about it a few times. I think I need to slowly —  I can do it when I slowly get out of porn a little bit because my opinion I think would drive off some of my fans. So I definitely considered it and I think I will do it when I get like a little further away.

Dallas

So when you say your opinion might drive off some of the fans — some controversial takes on the industry or perspectives, things like that?

Ana

All of the above even like, down to like how fans should treat you know, performers. A lot of I just talk on my Instagram or my comments and like trying to teach people how to approach us and they already take it negatively. So if I speak on it, it’s you know, going to have the same effects, but I really don’t care. So I’m going to talk about it.

Fan interactions

Dallas

Without making you delve too deeply into that, what is the best way to politely and nicely approach a star that you like on, say, social media.

Ana

A lot of them just kind of start out with a dick pic or something crazy, like, “Can we fuck?” And they completely forget that we’re strangers and we don’t know you. And you know, we are actresses. So even though everything you can find on us is like gaping holes and drool doesn’t mean that we’re doing that 24/7. So approaching us like a human for starters would be great, you know, just “Hi. Nice to meet you.” And if you don’t get a response, that’s okay. That doesn’t mean you continue to message. People get mad if you don’t respond or if you do and not in the right way. So just just treat people like you want to be treated. You know, a nice little hello, a nice compliment is good and it’s okay if you don’t get a response. We’re busy!

Dallas

So what’s one of the most heartwarming or memorable interactions you’ve had with a fan?

Ana

I have a few super fans that are really awesome. And they support me with everything and they show up or comment or purchase everything that I have to sell. And those people are really great. I have a few that I really love. But this one in particular, her name is Brianna, she goes out of her way to comment and champion and root on every single thing that I post, every single page or if somebody talks about me, positive or negative, she’s in there like letting them know what’s up. So Brianna really goes the extra mile and she’s just like a proud mom on the sideline. I love her. I love my female fans. I really love my male fans too. But the females — special place in my heart.

Woman fans

Dallas

Did it surprise you how many female fans that you ended up having given that people tend to think porn is so oriented toward men?

Ana

Yeah, it really did surprise me. I remember in the beginning, I didn’t think I was going to get any female fans. And then I thought that you were supposed to let the male fans talk to you any kind of way. But you know, thank God I grew and figured it out. And the female fans just kind of the way that they break it down why they’re a fan of me, it really makes me proud. They’re like, you know, you’re a feminist, you stand for this, you treat yourself with grace. So they just kind of like touch my little sweet spots in a nice way.

Acting in porn

Dallas

You mentioned earlier how you like to have your scenes be quite naturalistic. And I think that extends to your acting performances, too, your characters. So is that something that you’ve had to work on and evolve with, the approach to how you play characters and read lines and do that kind of thing?

Ana

Yeah, I definitely had to evolve with it. Because, like I said, in the beginning of my career, I wasn’t really taking it as seriously because I was so eager. So I kind of just had silly clown face the whole time. But once you get like your first compliment on something like, “Hey, you did good on that scene,” you kind of want to do better. And then you kind of see yourself in your early performances. And you’re like, “Oh, that was terrible. So let’s not ever do that again.” So I evolved from watching myself and other people and just figuring out what worked best for me and not really wanting to look so lost on camera.

Watching earlier work

Dallas

So you do go back and watch your earlier work sometimes?

Ana

Yeah, sometimes I do. It depends on what it was, or how I was feeling in the scene. If I’m curious about my performance, because it felt terrible or good, then I’ll go back and watch it and be like, “Oh, actually, that was that was pretty amazing. So I did better than I thought I did.” So yeah, I think it’s healthy to go back and watch yourself just to kind of correct what you did right or wrong. If I looked really good in this position, then I’m going to do that position a lot.

Performances to be proud of: Primary and Sweet Sally May

Dallas

What’s an acting performance that you’re particularly proud of, and what’s a “sex performance” that you’re particularly proud of?

Ana

Let’s see acting performance, I would have to say it’s my role in Primary, directed by Casey Calvert. I always say that she’s an evil genius, because she wrote each character’s role so flawlessly. And there was season one and two. So season two, my character fucked up a lot. So I had to be a lot more emotional. And it was really hard being in a house full of people that you really like and having to not smile and be sad or upset or you know, feel guilty. So it was it was a challenge for me to play that role. But I’m really glad I did it and it came out really good. So I looked like a proper asshole. So that was a good one.

And let’s see a [sex] scene that I did I will have to say it’s not out yet. But my performance in Sweet Sally May 2 with Cali Caliente. She is such a ball of fire super fucking fun so it was really, really fun to work with her. And everybody on set was just like kind of in character, like our costumes. Everybody was running around in ’70s fashion for three days. So it was a lot of fun and it really easy to play that role in the sex scene.

Women’s World

Dallas

And I know you have a role in an upcoming movie that looks quite interesting called Women’s World, or a series or something like that?

Ana

Yeah, yes, yeah, that one actually, I probably should have said that one because I was a news reporter. And I really had to memorize the whole news casting broadcast in my head and just say it like I’m on Channel Four. So it was really hard. It was really hard spitting the news out, but I got it.

Dallas

As I understand it, that movie has an unusual premise. Could you explain that to us?

Ana

Yes, in Women’s World by Adult Time, all of the men in the world disappear and turn into women. So it’s a really funny story. It’s a really great idea. I love everybody’s role in it. Everybody did such a good job. It was a really fun day on set. And I think that’s the most women I’ve ever seen in one porn ever. I think there’s like eight of us in the movie. So that’s the most women — definitely women’s world.

Dallas

I’m assuming also the behind the scenes players in that movie I would also assume are largely women right? Many of them, anyway.

Ana

Yeah, yeah, there was some there’s like a few roles of for men, but a lot there’s a lot of behind the scenes and a lot of characters who aren’t fucking. But everybody turns into a woman and the way that they casted that movie was really good. So it’s definitely a must-watch.

Dallas

Do you enjoy acting in those kind of almost sci-fi Twilight Zone type scenarios when they come up?

Ana

I’ve got to say, I really do. I really enjoy getting a script like that, where I read it and halfway through, I’m like, “What the fuck is happening?” They’re really good. The directors, the writers, the creative people behind the scenes are really good at writing some scripts.

Good scripts, bad scripts

Dallas

So when you get a really good script like that and you shoot a movie that has a really interesting story like that, is it almost a letdown in a way would you get the next scenario and it’s always just the school teacher or it’s the pizza boy or whatever, you know, the many familiar cliché scenarios.

Ana

It’s a little bit of both. Sometimes I dread the gonzo type of scenarios where it’s just your fucking some steps something this week or whatever.

Fan favorites

Dallas

I know you said that sometimes the scenes that fans embrace kind of surprise you. They’re not necessarily the ones that are your own favorites. What’s the scene that fans have really really loved that kind of surprised you or caught you off guard that they did?

Ana

Hmm, let’s see. The fans always bring up a scene that I don’t even remember doing. Like they’ll just they’ll say oh, you’re scene with such and such like Mick Blue or something was phenomenal. Or they always rave about the anal scenes, you know, and I think that’s because a lot of people — I mean, I don’t know who’s regularly just doing anal so it’s not something you normally do. So it’s kind of cool to watch something you can’t get, but then they’ll never pick an anal scene that I think that is really good. So I’m like oh, yeah, I don’t know. We don’t see eye to eye a lot of the time.

First anal scene

Dallas

And you shot your first anal scene with Mike Adriano if I’m remembering correctly. So what what year was that? How long ago was that?

Ana

I’m not sure what year it was, but I know it was like my fourth or fifth year after being into porn that I shot my first anal scene with my Adriano. I waited a while.

Dallas

So did you approach that with anxiety and trepidation or were you like, “Okay, let’s go! Let’s do this!”

Ana

Well, I approached it a with a lot of — for a while, I was not doing it. You know, I don’t even know why people do it. But then I got curious as my little curious nature does. And I researched it. I asked everybody around me that had done you know, how did it go? I went to a gay bar, asked people. I did everything I could, every kind of research I could on anal so by the time I did do my first scene with Adriano I was ready to go. I was like, “Come at me! Come at me, Adriano!”

Working with Mike Adriano

Dallas

You were prepped and ready to go! And his I feel like the environment on his sets at least just strictly once you get on the screen there’s a lot of vitality when you see the frame. There’s always those lively props. There’s always a lot of energy there. Is that the same sort of vibe when you’re actually on the set that kind of high tempo kind of slightly zany [feel]?

Ana

Yeah, pretty much from the second you walk in on an Adriano set, there’s all of that colorful stuff everywhere. Everybody’s fast to get you anything you need. I think they’re like the fastest with the side stuff. Like if you need a water, there’s somebody all ready with a water or like a towel or whatever you need. They’re like a pit crew. So it’s very, very fast. Very “let’s go!” Seems quick. So it’s a fast, fun day.

Working with porn agent Mark Spiegler

Dallas

Now, I think a lot of fans will know of course that you’re a Spiegler Girl! Your agent is Mark Spiegler, the very famous figure in the industry. So tell us a little bit about working with him.

Ana

Mark Spiegler is the best, honestly. I wasn’t signed to Spiegler when I started. I actually tried to, but I realized that I wasn’t at the level that it took to be a Spiegler girl. Like the rumor around the industry is that he’s the most professional — you have to be on time. There’s no “no list” — all of these things and I was like, “I’m not ready. So I need to like build my professionalism better. And then then I’ll approach them again.” So a few years later, I did. And he finally like took me on. So I really appreciate Spiegler. He does everything that I ask him to do and it’s it’s easy peasy. For me. We’re just both on the same page. I like to show up on time. He expects you to be there on time. Yeah, we have a pretty good relationship. So thanks, Spiegler, for for all that stuff.

Star showcase?

Dallas

You were saying there how you at one point weren’t quite ready to be in a group like that, which suggests to me that you you’re a person who’s very self-aware. You understand yourself very well. Is there anything that you’d like to do and you know you aren’t ready for it now, that you think, “Okay a couple years maybe I’ll be ready to do this!” Whether it’s I don’t know a big directorial project or I don’t even know what!

Ana

I’ve always wanted to direct my own showcase. That’s the last project on my list of things to do because I really want it to be right. I really don’t just want to throw anybody in there. I really want it to be phenomenal. So if anything I said I would say that I’m not quite ready for, it would be that.

Dallas

Do you ever think about what kinds of scenes or action you would want to have in such a showcase or you just haven’t gotten to the point of even thinking about that yet?

Ana

Well, I know there has to be a gangbang of sorts, an orgy of sorts. I mean, to me, those are the same thing. Something interesting with the butthole. But I haven’t quite figured that out. But you know, it’ll be foxy in nature.

What’s in a name?

Dallas

Could be the title there right: Foxy in Nature. Speaking of which, I see you have the necklace there with with F-o-x-x-x. Do you have people forget one or both X’s a lot of the time when they’re spelling the name?

Ana

Right. Yeah, I actually have people spell both of the names wrong, like they spell the Ana and the Foxxx wrong. So the triple X is a friendly reminder. I actually had somebody in a AVN interview tell me like, “Oh, so you’ve been spelling your name different for the past few years.” And I’m like, “No, I spell it right. Everybody else misspells it.” When I picked my name when I first started I just kind of thought everybody had a super porn name. So I thought that it would be normal to have three x’s and people do not think it’s normal.

Dallas

Do you think you’d choose a different name if you had it to do over or would you still do Ana Foxxx with the same spelling?

Ana

Ah, no, I probably would do still Ana Foxxx because all of my other choices were just terrible.

Dallas

Do you remember any of them?

Ana

Yeah, one of them. One of them was like a joke from college. My friends used to say because I was like the quiet one they’re like, “Oh, you’re probably going to get into porn and your porn name would be Jungle J.” So I ran that past my agent and he said “fuck no!” so thank you for the no because I would be Jungle J right now.

Dallas

So would that be “J” just the letter j or J-a-y y or what?

Ana

Letter J! For whatever reason, I was obsessed with the letter J.

Directing and producing

Dallas

And so you were talking about one day, of course, a future showcase that might be quite spectacular that presumably you’d also direct. When you’re on set, are you observing your directors and sort of like mentally taking notes of the things they do that that you would like to one day do if you’re in a similar director’s chair?

Ana

Well, I’ve kind of been in the director’s chair a little bit. I produced see Smash Pictures, Bellesa House, and now I produce for Playboy. But definitely did watch everybody and everything that they do. Just so I have examples of what I should do when I’m producing.

Dallas

So tell us a little bit more about those projects as a producer that you mentioned.

Ana

My first one was Ana Foxxx’s Filthy Fashion Models for Smash Pictures. And it was it was a long time ago. I think it was like six years ago. And I really, I always knew I wanted to do more than just be in front of the camera. So they gave me the opportunity and a budget to shoot all-girl girl/girl film, and it was starring me Kira Noir, Shyla Jennings, and Lotus Lain. And it was really, it was really cool, because everybody was newer then and I was really honored that the girls actually showed up to fuck me. So that was that was pretty cool. And more recently, I produced a shoot for Bellesa House with I can’t remember the guy’s name. But that’s probably why. But regardless, it’s really cool producing stuff. Because when you create a space where two people are comfortable and happy and they’re actually doing what you expected them to do, but even better, it just feels like “Oh, I did it! Look at them having fun and they’re fucking. Yay!”

Demanding directors

Dallas

Are there any directors that you’ve worked with that have been demanding in a way, but then once you saw the finished product you were like okay, I get it I get it why they were demanding in that way?

Ana

I think Mason who shoots for HardX? I think she is one of the most demanding directors I’ve ever worked for. But 100,000% every time I see the footage, I’m just like, okay, I get it Mason! All right, I look like a bad bitch and I look like I know what I’m doing like that the product always looks great. So I’m always thankful for Mason.

Dallas

All right so what’s an example if you can think of one of a piece of advice or something where she was really pushing you or driving you to change or do something different on set?

Ana

Well, she always says like, “Come, let me see your orgasm!” Because a lot of people — I don’t know about you but like in your normal natural life if you’re having an orgasm you might be a little quiet or you might be loud. No one’s around! But mostly like people are just kind of like [moans softly]. And she’s like,”No, no, let it all out! Let everyone know!” If you’re sweating, keep sweating and like let it all out so that kind of like release of orgasm on camera looks a lot better than just like a little silent one, you know.

Dallas

So she encourages a certain amount of theatricality, but it sounds like it’s a theatricality that works.

Ana

Pretty much, yeah! The theatrics in the orgasms definitely does make for a better pace in the sex rather than it just being kind of like neutral the whole way through like a visual build up so that way people can know you came.

Dallas

Now is there any particular movie or performance for Mason / HardX or any brand that she directs for that stands out as a particularly memorable one to you?

Ana

Jesus, I feel like Mason gets me to bring the heat in all of her HardX scenes for sure. I can’t I don’t remember one scene where I wasn’t like drenched in sweat.

Dallas

Right, because you did a gangbang for, I think it was for Mason, Gangbang Me 3. A HardX movie a couple of years ago.

The psychological impact of an intense scene

Ana

I’m sure it was! All those are the scenes that you walk away from and you have flashbacks of it, the whole day. Like you might go eat at a restaurant and you pick up your drink and try to like suck it like a dick because you think you’re still on sets. Those are like always really intense.

Dallas

So you’re so into it, that mindset doesn’t even leave you after you’ve you’ve departed and gone into citizen life, so to speak, for the day. That must be an interesting state of mind. Does that disturb you in a way or do you not mind that? Are you just kind of happy to have been so into that moment that it carries through?

Ana

I’m usually pretty happy to be in the moment. I realized that I have to check myself out of work when I’m out of work because there’s been one time where I like left the scene and like I was wearing the skirt and like lifting it up and stuff like that outside. And I was like I’m in public I cannot lift up my skirt in public. I’m not in the gangbang anymore. I got to compose myself!

Dallas

Has that ever happened with a character you’ve played where you were so intent upon the the specific persona that you were playing that it kind of carried into your day when the day ended the day on set?

Ana

Probably anytime I play a rich wife! I come home and I put on a put on a fur robe and pour a glass of wine or something like that and just carry on.

Wine

Dallas

What kind of wine do you prefer? Red wine? Do you have a favorite?

Ana

I’ve switched during COVID I was definitely drinking a bunch of merlot but now I am a sauvignon blanc lady.

Self-care

Dallas

So someone as professional and disciplined as you I would imagine would have a good self-care routine. So what are what are the elements, main elements, of your self-care. What what do you always make sure to do?

Ana

I am a self-care queen. I have about I’d say 60 bath bombs from different stores, like lush or nectar bath tweets or wherever, but I always take a bath especially if I’m going to work.

Dallas

I suppose the water bill must be kind of intense, but it’s worth it, right?

Ana

Yeah, if you stay in there long enough, I feel like it justifies the use of the water. Like a 10-minute bath is no bueno but an hour-long bath is good and I’ve been in the bath up to three hours before so I am obsessed with baths.

Porn trends

Dallas

There you go! Making good use of the time, right? Is there any porn trend currently that you really excited about?

Ana

Porn trend — if I had to guess is like stepmoms but then there’s also like a lot of the content creators that are just kind of like getting together and fucking that looks really hot. I am just neither of those things. So I’m not a stepmom and I’m not really a hooker-upper. You know, I will fuck when I’m like booked to fuck, and not not really outside of that. So I do enjoy watching all of these people I don’t know have sex, because I can’t watch porn with people that I do know so I’m very happy for this new influx of sex workers.

Dallas

So if you see something with people you do know, it completely takes you out of the moment and you can’t watch it as a normal consumer, so to speak?

Ana

Nope, can’t get horny. If it’s like a guy that I know. I’m like, I know what he’s doing. And if it’s a girl that I know I’m like, Oh, she looks so cute. I wish I could fix her hair. Oh, you know I’m not really like that creepy porn voyeur person that I’m trying to be.

Dallas

So in some sense being in porn kind of ruins porn as a viewing experience, for the most part.

Ana

I would say so, yeah. it’s like watching your friends fuck. For some, it could be exciting, but not really for me.

Appearing on HBO’s Winning Time

Dallas

You’ve of course also appeared in a number of mainstream projects. One that comes to mind is Winning Time, which is a recent limited series that was done for premium cable. So tell us a little bit about that experience or your other mainstream experiences for that matter.

Ana

Winning Time was the newest one. And so it’s like the freshest in my brain. And it’s kind of funny because we shot that a little bit like when COVID was still kind of like a thing. So you had to get the nose swab and all that stuff and kind of stay 10 feet apart. So I was kind of excited to be out of the house and doing something. And when I got on set, there was a lot of like topless actors and stuff like that. So I was like, “Look, yeah!” took my top off. And they they kept trying to give me a robe. And I was so confused. I didn’t realize that mainstream is a little different. Like when you have the speaking role or something like that, they’re attempting to view you.

Intimacy coordinators

Dallas

You hear a lot of talk these days about things like intimacy coordinators and things like that. Was there any such thing on this particular set?

Ana

Yes, there was an intimacy coordinator. And she was hanging out with me like the entire time, and was actually pretty good at coordinating the sex. I think I impressed her because I was a little bit more flexible than the both of us thought I was. So we made it work because the actor that was playing Magic Johnson, he was wearing these platform boots that were like this tall, so he was like, extremely, extremely tall. And we had to find a way for him to his tallness to match my shortness. But we made it work and it was a lot of fun.

Dallas

So the intimacy coordinator, they just make sure that you both know what’s going to happen. And what you’re both comfortable? Is that basically what they do?

Ana

Pretty much they helped, I guess, orchestrate the sex that we’re going to have. We pick the position, talk to everyone to see what their comfort levels were. And it was really nice to see that there were three of us hired to have sex with Magic Johnson. And one of the girl’s boundaries were — she had a lot of boundaries. So it was really nice to see everyone respect her boundaries and work around her, rather than taking her out, like making it work in different ways where all of our levels were different. And they played with our levels and made sure everybody looked good. So I was like, Oh, this is lovely, this is good.

Dallas

Do you think porn needs intimacy coordinators? Or would that essentially be redundant?

Ana

Some sets do have intimacy coordinators, and I see where they’re necessary. I think I’ve been in porn a lot longer so to me, I’m kind of just like, don’t necessarily need one on set. But a newer performer or someone who’s never worked with a company could totally benefit from intimacy coordinators being on set. It’s just like another another set of eyes just to make sure the communication is there because sometimes it’s not. Sometimes the guy will work with the director all the time, four times a week for four months. And like this girl it might be her first time working for the company, so the guy knows what’s going on. The girl doesn’t. So it’s just to bridge that gap so nobody’s playing telephone.

Other potential mainstream roles

Dallas

Now if some sort of really plum big mainstream role came along, a real outright acting role came along, is that something that you’d like to tackle at this point in your career?

Ana

I feel like I would because it’s a positive for my career. And I’m always looking to make new steps to like impress myself and do something new so yeah, if anybody wanted wanted me to be there, leading lady I would definitely say yes.

Dallas

Are there any movies that you’ve seen and you think wow, I would have liked to play that role? Like mainstream movies, I mean.

Superhero roles

Ana

Oh yeah, I mean, when Black Panther came out, the first one, I had actually shaved that year, I think. I shaved my head. And so I was kind of super butthurt. I was like, “Damn, I could have just went, if I would have went for the audition, I’m pretty sure I would have been in that movie.” But it’s kind of hard to focus on mainstream and porn at the same time, because there’s a lot you have to show up for an audition for a mainstream for —  callback then for reading and all of this stuff. Where I’m working four or five days a week in porn, it would be kind of hard to mix in the both so whatever works, I’m down.

Dallas

Right, and you’ve played a couple of roles in comic book parodies in porn as I recall. A couple of Axel Braun movies. Captain Marvel I think was one. Others, perhaps, too.

Ana

Yeah, yes, I’m coming out in the new Spidey movie for Axel Braun. As my name has changed so many times as same character. I’m the same character, but I have a different name. So I don’t know if it’s Photon or Spectrum whatever, Monica. I’m not sure what my name officially is in this one, but I’m her.

Dallas

Are you a comic book movie buff in general?

Ana

What’s crazy is that I grew up — I have three brothers. So I grew up liking things like that, but I’m not like I like a “nerd” — like people go hard for the comic books. And I’m just like a casual fan. I like Spiderman. Have I seen all the Spidermans? No, I stopped at the last stopped at three, three previous to the one that just came out. I follow things but to a certain level. I don’t think I’m of a superfan of anything but food.

Foodie?

Dallas

So are you an outright foodie?

Ana

No, not yet because I got to get some Michelin star restaurants under my belt before I can call myself a foodie.

Dallas

So what kind of cuisine do you like best?

Ana

I think I really like Japanese. I really love French, Italian. I’m I’m really adventurous so I kind of will eat anything.

Nerding out

Dallas

So is food the thing you nerd out over? Or what is the thing that you nerd out over the most in life?

Ana

Probably it’s probably between food, makeup, glitter, dogs Yeah, I think I think food because I like cooking, too.

Dallas

Do you have a signature dish?

Ana

It’s like in my family. My dad was a chef. My aunt is a chef. I’m not a chef, but I have to cook to impress these people. So I think I’m a pretty good cook. I do cook the whole Thanksgiving meal all by myself.

Dallas

Wow, so that’s pretty hardcore. That’s a lot of food. How long does that take?.

Ana

Yeah! I’m kind of start the day before and you got to wake up at like 4 a.m. and check the oven for your turkey and stuff like that. But I cook everything, all of the things by myself, most of it from scratch if I can just I can impress people more. So yeah. It’s serious!

Pastor father

Dallas

You mentioned your dad. Is it true that you’re the daughter of a preacher. Did I read that correctly?

Ana

Yeah, and it’s crazy my aunt’s a pastor, too. So there’s a lot of pastors in my family.

Dallas

So did that religious upbringing, Did it influence you in any profound way? Were you rebelling against that when you ended up in porn? Or do you not see it that way?

Sexual growth: reasons for entering the industry

Ana

I wouldn’t say necessarily rebelling, I think it kind of it definitely kind of put me in the path of porn because I wasn’t really sexually active before porn, and I didn’t really watch porn, either. It was like, Oh, I can get all the ass and pussy I like but in a controlled environment. And so I really thought it was a very smart move. I didn’t consider it rebellious at all. I just thought it was like taking the middleman out.

Dallas

So porn in some sense really was a way for you to grow and learn sexually, then.

Ana

100%! That’s that was my whole goal for entering it. I really wanted to just have better sex. I knew I was doing a terrible job. I was just like, please just teach me how and where and what to do so I can just be better at this because it kind of sucks when you’re doing well and all the other aspects but the sexual one. So wanted to figure that [out].

Dallas

So it wasn’t just that your partners were kind of inept. You were saying you yourself, you felt, weren’t very good at it?

Ana

I think definitely both. I was having sex with people that were just their main goal was just to bust a not and not really having sex. Just kind of like using me to jack off, if you will. And then I was terrible, because I didn’t know how you’re supposed to have sex. I wasn’t sure. If I had orgasms or not, or like is this good? Is this bad? How long are you supposed to? I didn’t know anything. I didn’t think about sex. I didn’t even know what deepthroating was.

Dallas

Gosh, so was the first time that you had really great sex, was it part of a porn shoot, then, basically?

Ana

Pretty much, yep. All of my first experiences. Well, not all of them, but but a lot of them are on camera.

First deep throat

Dallas

You mentioned deep throating there. Do you remember the first time you did deep throat and how that went?

Ana

I definitely do. I was so stupid. I got booked for a blowjob scene pretty early on. I think it was like my first week or so in porn. And I was like, “Oh, that’s weird. How are they going to shoot just a blowjob? I guess the scenes only going to be like two minutes.”

Dallas

Were you startled when they showed you that footage? Like, “Oh, wow, this is intense!”

Ana

Yeah, I was kind of like, “Well, who would want to do that” and “Why? What’s the purpose of like all of this stuff?” But all it took was after that one I refused to look lost on set again. So I made it like a point to research and have a game plan. [Laughs]

Future projects and plans

Dallas

So as 2022 rolls on here, what are some cool projects and plans that you have coming up for the rest of this year and then beyond?

Ana

The rest of this year, I’m kind of eager to see which of my projects get nominated for award season coming up. And I’m really anxious to see if I win some awards because, not to toot my own horn, but I’ve been looking it up this year and I would really like to see a Female Performer of the Year nomination, maybe win one. I don’t know, but I have worked with a lot of really awesome directors who have stepped outside of the box so just kind of excited and eager to see those projects come out and how how they’re perceived by everyone.

Dallas

You’re right because award season is almost upon us here [interview recorded August 2022]. The ballots will be going out or however they do that. I know in September is the end of the eligibility period anyway, so it sounds like if there’s one award that you’d most like to win it sounds like Female Performer of the Year is at the top of that list.

Ana

Performer of the Year is definitely at the top of the list. I’ve seen so many women winning and I like look over their body of work and look over mine and I just tried to keep myself diverse in what I do. And I don’t know — I feel like I’ve been like trying really hard to get like the right roles, the right scenes with the right people and this year just felt like everything fell like perfectly into place for me, so I’d like to get some acknowledgement for all of that jazz. That would be awesome!

Dallas

Yes, you’re right. And that would be a milestone too, I think! Yeah, definitely enter into history there for sure. I know we’re running short on time here. But I did want to give you a chance to tell people where they can follow you on the web and keep up with all these exciting projects and possibly your upcoming award nominations. We hope!

Ana

Well, my name is Ana Foxxx. So if you put that into your search engines a bunch of my holes will come up, but I am on Twitter @anafoxxx and I am on Instagram @foxy_scorpio. That’s as much adulting platforms as I can do unless you want to pay for my OnlyFans but you know that’s where I’m at.

Dallas

There you go. And of course, people could also go to adultempire.com, they can pop in your name. Make sure to spell it right, though. Get those all those three x’s in there. And they can find all kinds of Ana Foxx awesomeness from 2012 right onto the present day. Well, Ana Foxx, a great pleasure to have you here on the podcast today.
