Age & Beauty Vol. One
Nina Hartley, Syren De Mer, and Darla Crane certainly aren’t young anymore, but nor are they past their prime! Age & Beauty acknowledges their advancing years in honest, tactful ways. They’re not the bouncy newbs that they were when they first won porn fame, but age has brought its own pleasures to savor. Hartley plays a retired teacher who ends up living next door to a former student, who has grown up to become a handsome temptation for her. De Mer initially disappoints her online date, who expected her to be much younger. But when they reflect a bit, they realize fate may have put a remarkable chance in their path. Crane, meanwhile, plays a hardworking administrative assistant who finally earns the passionate plaudits of her boss (Seth Gamble).

A Killer on the Loose
Sex scenes are usually joyous, exciting cinematic moments, but an undercurrent of dread churns beneath the action of A Killer on the Loose. Indeed, it’s tempting to describe it as a sort of porn Silence of the Lambs. Seth Gamble plays a supremely controlled criminal mastermind in the Hannibal Lecter mode. He’s consulted by Aiden Ashley, who is looking for any possible lead in a series of chilling abductions. The movie’s opening hookup is fraught with tension, as two dallying lovers are unwittingly stalked by a silent psychopath. It’s an interesting psychological space to occupy while watching a porn scene. Your instinct is to become swept up in the passion of the performers, but you can’t quite eschew the sense of creeping danger. MissaX has always been particularly gifted at walking that delicate line!

Best of Asa Akira

The Dentist Trilogy
Adult entertainment and dentistry have no obvious connection. Porn is fun, and visits to the dentist are, well, decidedly not. That’s why it’s easy to be intrigued, if not downright puzzled, by a porn movie set in a dentist’s office. The hook here is that it’s PurgatoryX’s creative way of playing with power dynamics, consent, and kink. Donnie Rock plays a dentist whose office is creepily devoid of assistants, receptionists, and even patients for the most part. Kendra Spade, Demi Sutra, and Angela White arrive one by one to address dental emergencies. Unsettling music creates a mood of unease as their eyes dart around the suspiciously empty office. Dr. Rock uses the intimacy of the dental exam to push boundaries to the breaking point. Before they know it, each patient is swept up in a kinky hookup in the dentist chair. “There’s no charge,” Rock says distantly as Angela White gathers herself together.
