WATCH: Sinn Sage on the Evolution of Girl/Girl Porn
In this excerpt from our recent in-depth interview with Sinn Sage, the popular star discusses the changes she’s seen in the all girl/lesbian genre over the years.

Dallas: So let’s talk a little bit about the evolution of the girl/girl genre. Since you joined the industry, what what are some of the biggest positive changes you’ve seen in that particular sphere during your career?
Sinn: Yeah, I think like when I very, very first came on the scene, almost all the directors and producers I was working for were men. So right around the time that I started getting popular and working more often around ’07, ’08, I was working for women producers and directors. And since that happened, it’s just exploded even more. There are still some males doing those things, which, you know, we shouldn’t exclude them for any particular reason. But it’s kind of an even playing ground. And so I really like that.
And I really like that it appears to me — I don’t know; I might be living in a bubble — but that there are a lot more authentically bisexual queer women doing lesbian scenes now. You know, I think there are those companies that are always going to be out there that are definitely making girl/girl scenes for guys to watch. But there’s also this thriving industry of people who are making lesbian scenes that everyone can enjoy, who likes to watch lesbian stuff, so I’m happy about that.
And even just when we talk about the awards shows and stuff, for me when I was working a lot, and like in ’08 ’09, ’10 . . . Some of my stuff [would] get nominated or scenes I was in would be nominated, but I’d see who’s winning and I was just like, “Oh, someone like me is never going to win an award at one of these things.” They had Performer of the Year. But that performer is obviously going to have done boy/girl scenes. So they didn’t make a space for people who chose to only work with women, do girl/girl scenes, when I was first in the industry. And then when I won my first award in 2013, for Best Girl/Girl Scene, I was absolutely floored and shocked. I did not think that was ever going to happen. So to me, even just the fact that the scene that I was in won was like, “Oh, something might be changing a little bit here.”
And then the very next year, they had a new category, which was All-Girl Performer of the Year. So they gave that space for girl-only performers. And then I won that the following year. So that was a big change, too. You know, I see when I first got into the business, girl/girl was just sort of like a token thing. And girl/girl movies were very much just all for guys to watch. And then since that time, I think it’s been like women are coming out of the closet about watching porn, watching with their partners, and enjoying it. So I feel like that’s been a big shift, too, even just with girl/girl porn. So I’m really happy about that. I have lots of different kinds of fans, but the ones who reach out to me and make sure that I hear that, you know, I’ve brought some joy to their life are mostly women, for me, so I really appreciate that a lot.
