Adam Christopher porn director

Director Interview: Adam Christopher (‘Grindhouse XXX’ & ‘Porno Things’)

Adam Christopher, also known as Tarantino XXX, has been behind the camera genre-bending porn parodies as flamboyant as those of his mainstream namesake. In this interview, exclusive to the Adult Empire Blog, Christopher discusses his career in porn, from his popular parodies to his forays into trans content.

How did you get into the porn industry?

Started nine years ago (when social media and YouTube began) created the persona of being the Tarantino Of Porn (hence my twitter handle @TarantinoXXX) created TarantinoXXX.com, a foot fetish site, worked on that for three years. Moved to LA in 2014 began working on mainstream sets as a PA, 2nd cameraman, and sometimes performer. In 2017 decided to get back more into indie content creating side and build new productions (Nerds Of Porn, THICQ, and Transglamour).

For viewers new to your movies, which video do you regard as the best intro to your style?

For TarantinoXXX.com I would say watch Porn Fiction, which was my first ever big budget . . . lol, well, very low-budget porn parody feature that really captured my style.

What is the key to a good porn parody?

Be creative with the source material. When porn parodies were at the height of popularity in the industry several years ago (certainly when I started),  you started to see a pattern with companies and producers being lazy with porn parodies and just basically copying the source material and just adding sex. It’s why Smash Pictures got in trouble and were sued when they created their 50 Shades parody — they got lazy with it.  I’m certainly guilty of that in my earlier parody work, but I think ultimately you need to be creative with creating a porn parody. Comedy bits, cheesy titles, create an actual parody of it.

Of all your movies, which was the most fun to shoot? Which was the most challenging?

The most fun was The Vagnificent Seven, I had so much fun getting creative with that parody take on Magnificent Seven and Hateful Eight. From the different costumes the girls had to wear in that movie, it was so much fun, and it was a major reason why I got nominated for a Best Art Director nod for that movie. The most challenging shoot was my first original feature Bad Wives remake film, that movie went completely different than when I first originally wrote it whether it was numerous casting changes, location changes, you know — I tried to get cameos from stars of the original film,  I tried to get Vivid Entertainment (the studio that released the original) to be involved and those didn’t pan out, so it was extremely difficult to put together, but I eventually got it done.

Who are some porn directors, new or old, that you admire or look up to?

Growing up watching porn, there were three directors that I looked up to and admired greatly and they were Paul Thomas (who mostly directed for Vivid) Toni Brooks aka Kelly Holland and Brad Armstrong (who mostly shot for Wicked Pictures). Those three were huge influences to me and a lot of their films (in particular the big budget feature ones they did in the 1990s)  I studied and watched over and over. I owe those three a lot to my career and where I am today. I also have to give credit to Axel Braun and Will Ryder. They were other influences of mine especially in the parody genre when it was huge I really loved their work and wanted to be like them at the time. I also owe a lot to Glenn King (who gave my first actor/male talent role on camera when no other director hired me), Craven Moorehead, David Lord (who gave me my first PA jobs on set), Mike Quasar who is super talented behind the camera.  Newer or recent directors  I like currently,  I love what Billy Visual is doing at Mindgeek, Alan X and what he’s doing with She Seduced Me and Spizoo, Ricky Greenwood is doing amazing film work and the current queen I believe who is doing fantastic adult film work is Kayden Kross; she’s absolutely amazing with what she does for Vixen and Deeper.  You also have to look at some of the great young ones coming up recently in adult such as Ricky Johnson, Casey Calvert.

Give us your take on the evolution of the career of Quentin Tarantino, the inspiration for one of your stage names.

When I first was beginning in porn as an indie producer/director and I was trying to come up with a persona that was going to get eyes on me. I figured not coming out as just Adam because that would be boring no one would care. So I came up with the Tarantino XXX persona, it was someone nobody was doing in the business at the time, he was my favorite director, it was a great niche to start in and it worked. But I would say over the last few years I’ve tried to move away from the Tarantino XXX persona and become more Adam.

What specific elements of Tarantino’s style did you attempt to bring to porn spoofs like Porn Fiction, Grindhouse XXX, and others?

You know the funny elements about him, the emphasis on feet mostly.  But also adding a more vintage look to the projects like how some of the homages he did in almost all his films.

What’s a mainstream property you’d love to spoof but which would be prohibitively expensive to do so?

I would love to do more superhero or horror parodies in comedic takes in a full length matter but yeah those are definitely expensive to make because I’m not backed by any investors or mainstream company.

How do you best balance the humor of a parody with the erotic aspects?

You gotta look how porn parodies in the past worked, especially in the late ’80s and 1990s. They balanced the cheese of the source material and sex.  You just have to again be creative with it and not lazy.

In your Transglamour label, what qualities set the movies apart from other videos in the trans genre?

Well obviously Transglamour is heavily influenced by Vixen, Tushy, Deeper, and Blacked.com brands.  It’s the definite natural cinematic settings and beautiful scenarios put together.  Majority of trans porn in the past and much of it today with a lot of mainstream companies who shoot it fetishize the trans models and cater to what I call the “chaser” audience (meaning the audience who’s afraid to show they like trans humans and keep it on the down low).  And that’s something I don’t like and agree with. The world is changing, the industry is changing, becoming more acceptable and the trans community is becoming more acceptable in society so I think we need to create more trans porn that’s on par/equal with mainstream and that’s the goal with Transglamour and separates it from traditional trans porn.

What trans performers do you hope to work with in the future?

Oh, gosh, there’s so many — Domino Presley, Natalie Mars, Daisy Taylor, Aubrey Kate, Korra Del Rio, Alexa Scout, Venus Lux, Jasmine Lotus, Evie Envy.

What other mainstream filmmakers do you rank among your faves?

Some personal favs are David Cronenberg (The Fly), John Carpenter (Halloween), Robert Rodriguez (Desperado), Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan.

Tell us about Porno Things: A Stranger Parody. Are you a fan of the show Stranger Things

I’m a huge fan of the show, the ’80s nostalgia, it was my childhood so I totally would relate to the show. The idea for the parody feature came from my friend and former performer Betty Blaze. Originally her and I were gonna shoot a one scene parody of Winona Ryder’s character and her seducing a teenage girl. After we shot that scene Betty came up to me and gave me the idea to co-write an actual feature parody of the show. She agreed to pay for some of the production so we had very little budget on it but made it work and were able to hire two A list talents in Riley Nixon and Tommy Pistol to be in it. It’s my most popular title and a lot of fans comment to me on it to this day and actually want me to shoot another one so we will see.

Do you recall the first time you became familiar with the Adult Empire brand?

Yeah, I met with Colin, Ryan, and the crew way back in 2017 at the XBIZ convention. They were so amazing and broke it down when we met and at the time I was breaking away from working on mainstream sets and going back to creating my own content and the indie porn scene.  It was a natural fit when I started to distribute with them because they really believed in my vision and have been huge supporters of mine since then.  I’m forever grateful to Adult Empire and will continue to work with them as long as I am creating adult films.
