Carl Hubay Interview: The Multi-Talented Man Behind Hot Clits

Prolific director and star Carl Hubay is still going full speed at a point in life when many are content resting on their laurels. Few people are so versatile that they can regularly excel at both straight and gay content, but Hubay embraces such challenges with the energy of a person half his age. We caught up with Hubay, mastermind behind the Hot Clits and Hot Dicks labels, for an illuminating chat about his career, movies, and 2021 plans.

Tell us a little bit about your background. How did you get into porn?

My wife and I have been swingers from the start of our marriage and have no jealousy if one of us is fooling around with a single or couple. In my case, I was swinging with a lot of couples and one of them said that I should be in XXX videos. I didn’t pay too much attention to it, but they kept mentioning it every time we got together. One time, they brought me paperwork from a site where you sent in videos and sold them outright to them. So, I shot a video with my wife (a friend did the camera) and we sent it in. They bought it for $600, and this was in the early ’80s. So I shot more with her and kept sending them in. But, after a while, they said they needed more variety, so I started advertising for ladies to shoot. After a while, I decided to shoot content for myself and market it to other major companies. I also got into gay video. That was the start of HotClits.net as a production company.

What’s the key to casting/assessing talent? 

In my case, it is very difficult to find people who want to be in XXX videos. Most people have jobs, husbands, wives, or relatives, etc., that if they found out what they were doing, would cause serious problems for them. People want to shoot with masks, etc. I don’t do that. So, I have a limited amount of people who respond. I shoot with virtually anyone who responds, so long as I like their personality and looks.

What would you consider the signature stylistic traits of the Hot Clits label? 

That would be me. I am in 95% of all of my videos. I only buy outside videos and put them on my site, when I run out of videos to load. I try to load one straight and one gay video per week. People either like my style or don’t.  But I have quite a following. By my estimate, my videos have grossed more than $4 million dollars. As you can imagine, my percentage of that is much less.

What’s one of your most unusual or memorable casting call stories?

I had a couple come over so the girl could shoot with me. Most of the time, I don’t want the boyfriend or husband present, because they occasionally cause problems. Anyway, he said the only way she could shoot was if he watched. So, we allowed him to watch. We said to him not to say anything or interfere in any way, or the shoot would be canceled. If we had NOT finished shooting the entire video, she would not be paid, since I can’t sell a partial video. So he agreed. We started shooting and after a few minutes, I was eating her pussy. He said STOP. The cameraman is in the wrong place. He needs to be closer and more to the side. We thanked him and told him not to interfere again. He agreed. We continued. This time I was fucking her and he said STOP. The cameraman can get a better angle if he shot from underneath. The cameraman and I looked at each other and shook our heads. We told him we had been doing well without his assistance for about 10 years so far. I told him if he interrupted us again, the shoot would be canceled and she would not be paid. We shot another 10 minutes or so of video. During this time he could hardly keep in his seat. He wanted to tell us so badly how to shoot. Finally, he said STOP. Your cameraman is screwing up the scene. etc. The cameraman looked at me and I nodded. He started cutting off the lights and putting them away. I said, “The shoot is over. Thanks for your participation, but, as I told you, we are canceling the shoot.” He asked, “Aren’t you going to pay my girl friend? You just fucked her for 20 minutes or so.” I said “No.” I’m done with playing games with you. I told you not to interfere and you did so repeatedly.  Sorry.. No payment. Get out . . .”

You’re known for being astonishingly prolific. What’s the secret to keeping such a remarkable pace?

Honestly, it’s because of my high testosterone level. For a male, it’s supposed to be between 250 and 650. Mine is 1250. So I am almost double the highest level. This means that I am always horny. Till I was about 70, I was cumming five times a day. Now, at 72, I’ve slowed down to 4 times a day. Since I have a penile implant, and can stay hard for as long as I want, I can basically have sex all day.

What does a typical day in the life of Carl Hubay look like? 

I get laid. Then, I get up and exercise (three days a week) for about an hour. 40 minutes on a treadmill, 50 situps, 30 bench presses, 12 chinups, and 2 minutes very fast, on an exercise bike. Check email. Sometimes I have dates, since I do escorting, or I have guys or girls dropping by to have sex with me. Or, I am shooting videos. Load videos online or work on videos I have recently shot, have lunch. Take a nap and then get laid again.  Get up, watch a little TV and check email and phones for playdates or escorting. Or, I may be shooting videos. Work on videos or send them online. Supper (Go out on dates or people may drop by for sex). I may be shooting videos. If nothing is happening, watch a little TV, then have sex and off to sleep. As you may have noticed, my life revolves around sex . . .

Your movies have an incredible variety of themes and characters. Are there any that stand out as some of your favorites?

I particularly enjoy playing the part of a dirty old man, seducing the young chicks. Girls are hitchhiking and I offer them a ride and a shower and meal at my place. Girls are selling cookies and I offer to buy all of them if she’ll do a few things for me. Etc.  It’s kind of hot to be saying that kind of lines and the girl goes along with it, and you seduce her. Of course, in real life, the first question I ask any potential model is “Are you 18 or over?”  I don’t touch anyone under 18.

Are you often recognized by fans? What was your most memorable encounter with a fan?

I am occasionally stopped in a casino and asked if I am Carl Hubay. We stop and talk and they tell me how they have enjoyed my videos, and I listen carefully to what they say so I can tailor videos to meet their desires. One time a couple stopped me in a casino and we talked some. They asked if I was in a rush, to which I replied negatively. We ended up in their Hotel room having some wild sex. A lot of couples and singles write me and ask if they can visit and have sex with me. Slut that I am . . . I always agree.

What are the differing challenges in shooting straight content versus those in shooting gay content?

The hardest part for me is finding the models. I can find twice as many ladies for straight as opposed to gay videos. The biggest challenge for the females is getting them to STD test. They always say they are clean and to trust them. Not so hard for the gay guys to test.

What are your passions, hobbies, or interests off the set? 

I honestly don’t have any interests aside from shooting videos and having sex, except for spending time with my wife. We met and married over 43 years ago, and are inseparable. I have often said that if she was to die before me, that I would follow her within 24 hours as I want us both cremated and in the same container.

What are your biggest plans and projects for 2021?

My biggest hope for 2021 is to throw these stupid masks away, which are about useless. I would like to step out of The Twilight Zone and back into the world before all of this COVID crap. My advertising has stopped due to COVID. Companies have changed their policies and aren’t allowing ads for models for sex videos, etc. So, my pool of models has dried up.
