Sofia Rose Podcast
Sofia Rose has all the right stuff; that is to say she is a BBW. That is to say she helped define the genre. She’s been in the industry for almost two decades. But life for any pornstar ain’t all sunshine and rainbows, as Rocky Balboa would put it, and it gets more muddy when you’re in what was once a very niche subgenre.
“People are harsh. People are vile. People are mean.”
Sofia, at this point in her career, knows the ins and outs of the grotesque depths of human hatred and jealousy that manifest from people’s fear of the unknown and different. While, admittedly, the amount of harassment and fat-shaming was more mainstream and pronounced when she began her career, it’s still regular, it’s still every day, and it’s still every bit as aggressive.
“I get verbal lashings every single day. Every time a photo is posted of me on Instagram or twitter.”
What’s it like for people to want her and attack her at the same time? Sofia is a trailblazer, and like the great trailblazers in history, the doubters and the haters feed her drive.
“Resilience is part of it. It comes with drive.”
Her drive is necessary, not just for herself, but everyone else struggling with acceptance, and for those who will have to struggle in the future.
“Even if I wasn’t plus-sized – you’re still facing opposition. If you’re gay you’re doing it, if you’re trans you’re doing it.”
Our culture is a fragile ecosystem, and while we fight this battle of acceptance in the porn industry, it’s the first step on the on the staircase to acceptance into the zeitgeist. The ripe seeds of cultural influence are planted in porn, after all.
“We have a huge influence,” Sofia says of the porn industry’s influence on American culture.
“Everyone you know has been on Pornhub. We want to pretend we’re not.”
This is a horrible way for me to find out my girlfriend has been lying to me.
“The pair of leggings I wore in the first scene I did with Brazzers. Those leggings have been marketed everywhere for the last three years as ‘anti-cellulite’ and I’m like, ‘are you kidding? These were $15 off of Amazon they’re not anti-cellulite anything.’”
