The Rundown: Casey Calvert Directs ‘Primary’
Basics
Casey Calvert’s Primary, from LustCinema, will no doubt bring many, many more movies, not only because it’s good, but because it safely and effectively establishes her style as a unique voice and fills a void in the genre. Interweaving characters and storylines, intentional and continued tone and aesthetic, and legitimate storytelling instantly transported me back to the days when we were allowed to go to movie theaters. The talented cast: Ana Foxxx, Derrick Pierce, Kira Noir, Small Hands, Penny Pax and Michael Vegas, are able to flex their range as performers and I felt I was partaking in a cinematic experience that just happened to have mind-blowing sex scenes.
Scene highlight(s)
Kira Noir’s scene with Michael Vegas was intensely passionate, calculated, and relatable and realistic. This scene is a perfect example of how Casey hits the directorial bullseye. They take their time, starting slow, leading to a sensual blowjob. Tension builds to 69ing as you feel their desire and submission to the moment. There are small realistic details that absolutely make the strength of the scene – looking for a condom when it’s time to penetrate, adding the lube, and then acknowledging it’s leftover on his hand and wiping it on her.
Special shout out to Ana Foxxx and Small Hands trip to the bagel food truck. Who doesn’t love a good bagel? The realism of this film is almost surreal.
Quotable
“Love is cursed by monogamy.” – Kanye West
The binding shackles of monogamy have turned a once revered artist into a hushed taboo. He tried to warn us, and none of us listened, not even him!
Why we love it
The collection of scenes are ultimately an expose on millennial dating, relationships, and sex. As someone who considers himself a millennial, I find this to be an important period piece as we’re due to rule society sooner rather than later. The Smartest Generation is taking polyamory into the mainstream because we’ve known for too long that it’s what every guy pretends he wants because he thinks he can do better (he can’t) and what every woman secretly wants so can she get her bell rung without having to tell her boyfriend “what to do” and shatter his fragile ego. That, also, while monogamy works for some, it’s not natural and was invented because some pervert with a giant beard and a robe wanted to marry his daughter 8,000 years ago.
