Pornstar Jessica Drake: Working With Partner Brad Armstrong
Having your partner that is an adult performer can be a difficult path to navigate, but what if you and your partner are both in the adult entertainment industry? We sat down to interview pornstar Jessica Drake who is in an open relationship with male performer/director Brad Armstrong and asked her what its like to work with her partner.
Dallas: Um you talked about brad armstrong whom of course as you said you’re in an open relationship with but of course you also work with him on numerous famous movies, some of the ones we’ve talked about today. So tell us a little bit about your working relationship on set, do you kind of have to flip a switch and you know turn off the relationship switch and turn on the professional we’re on a set switch how does that work?
Jessica: That is a fantastic question and I want to know if he asked you to ask that question, um so I can be a very sensitive person and he and I have complete polar opposite directing styles and to some degree we also have very different styles of communication. So when I direct a movie I treat my performers a very specific way, I think the better you treat people and the more encouraging you can really bring our the best in them and people who feel very comfortable and not saying cuddled but comfortable will always give you their best right and I come from a very you know performer background so I think that’s why I treat folks that way. So brad has been the creator of some of our biggest budget movies, some of the movies that brad’s done for wicked are the biggest budget movies in the history of adult entertainment and I realize that that comes with a lot of expectation and a lot of pressure and a demand to deliver. That being said sometimes on set he is um he yells and I’m sure that uh that y’all can see it in the behind the scenes for some movies he just he gets so passionate about what he does he gets really worked up, um I have a tendency to shut down when that happens so it has definitely led to some very interesting discussions but also a mutual understanding that yeah look when I’m on set I always give one hundred percent of more because that’s just who I am as a performer. So I do my best to to compartmentalize and sort of detach and say um I’m on set this is the boss and just completely just section it a whole nother way, but when it’s the other way around like in the beginning especially of um the guide to within sex series because I shoot them all at home so inevitably he would be around for a bit and you know I’m a nurturer by nature I you I just I’m very sweet with people so in that environment I would still treat him the way I would treat him at home because technically we are at home um but just because our styles are so different so definitely some compartmentalizing going on there and anyone watching this that has seen the bts (behind the scenes) for brad armstrong movies can understand and relate.
