New Zealand porn PSA

New Zealand Porn PSA Makes Waves

Porn isn’t intended to be sex education. Legendary star Nina Hartley once described pornography as “live-action cartoons.” While there are certainly some verite-style studios and amateur labels that attempt to approximate real-life sex, most porn is highly stylized. With porn so widely and easily available, it sometimes becomes a form of de-facto sex education. As figures in the porn industry will themselves sometimes point out, this is not necessarily ideal. A new PSA from New Zealand has made headlines for discussing this issue in a humorous, non-judgmental way. Unlike other such PSAs, it does not condemn the adult industry but rather encourages open lines of communication about the fantasy nature of porn.

As the commercial opens, a casually attired mom opens her door to find two nude pornstars. (Strategically placed props obscure the nudity, of course, since the commercial plays on mainstream outlets.) The stars jovially inform the mom that her son has been looking them up on the internet! While they emphasize that it’s perfectly normal, they also remind the befuddled mom that a candid conversation about porn-watching is in order. As of this writing, the YouTube incarnation of the video has scored 1.5 million views.

“We’ve been blown away by the response so far. Obviously the issues we are tackling within the campaign are sensitive, so to see the campaign land so well with parents has been amazing,” the campaign’s creative director told XBIZ.  Check it out here:
