Yes, There IS a Coronavirus Porn Movie: ‘Sex Addiction in the Viral Age’

We’re sure you’ve heard of the internet rule of thumb that a porn theme can be applied to anything. You might assume this wouldn’t extend to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but that just means you aren’t using your imagination! Sure, on the face of it, flu and fever do not sound like fertile territory for an erotic exploration. That said, other aspects of the pandemic interface with sex and sexuality in interesting ways. After all, how does a person cope when isolation and social distancing put a damper on an active, vibrant sex life? The ever-creative folks over at Wasteland have crafted an entertaining porn take on it all, entitled Sex Addiction in the Viral Age.
According to press materials associated with the movie, it was filmed on March 10 and released just five days later, a remarkable turnaround time. Featured star Sicilia Ricci, who penned the movie’s script, has a background uniquely suited to the material. “Being that I do have a Ph.D. and work in the field of viral immunology, this was a fun script to write!” Ricci said in an XBIZ press release. “[Wasteland’s] Colin [Rowntree] called me up on a Sunday and by that evening we had a workable script.”
So, how did this topical, strange movie turn out?
Quite well, as it happens! Inevitably, it’s based on fairly simple scenarios, with understandably limited budget and resources. Even so, there’s a mix of poignancy, humor, and eroticism in this 30-minute porn flick that undeniably holds your attention. It opens with some exposition about the leading character, an epidemiologist played by Ricci. She unwinds by watching a massage-themed porn scene (from a Wasteland sibling brand, of course, in a nice little visual Easter egg), as if longing for the intense tactility that a massage — a clear no-no in a time of social distancing — always brings.
Later, a friend IMs her to say that he’s banished to self-isolation after a COVID-19 diagnosis. Ricci is happy to entertain him, though, via a cam-to-cam session that includes some judicious use of her speculum! (The pair may not be able to hook up in person, but she’s clearly intent on compensating for that by offering him the most vividly explicit view imaginable!) As the movie winds down, Ricci sends out an email to her former lovers inviting them to watch her hot, sultry cam show. Sex Addiction in the Viral Age is a funny, very relatable look at the reality (and fantasy) of finding intimacy when physical touch off the table. If you need to self-isolate, the movie might make for the ideal virtual companion!
