Sex and Football’s Biggest Game

Editor’s note: this archival post originally appeared on the Adult Empire Blog in January 2015.

It’s almost Super Sunday! And if there’s one thing Americans love as much as sex, it’s football. There’s been plenty of overlap of gridiron glory and the steamy side of life over the years, from provocative commercials to off-field escapades to calamitous controversies – let’s take a look at five moments that merged sex and the Super Bowl!

1

Janet Jackson’s name became forever synonymous with the term “wardrobe malfunction” when her right breast was “accidentally” exposed during the 2004 halftime show, creating a firestorm of controversy.

In the immediate aftermath of the Seahawks’ thumping of the Broncos in the 2014 Super Bowl, porn traffic in Denver spiked up while viewing in Seattle declined. As they say, losing hurts worse than winning feels good, and what better tonic for the agony of defeat than some beautiful agony? (FitPerez)

In 2009, an Arizona hacker interrupted the Tucson area Comcast broadcast of the Super Bowl with a 37-second clip of pornography. He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years of probation and a $1,000 fine. (Huffington Post)

When Pete Rozelle decided to use roman numerals instead of cardinal numbers for Super Bowl games (to give them the rarefied feel of a Greco-Roman struggle), he probably didn’t consider that this would inevitably lead to a few big games that would sound like football-themed porn movies: “Super Bowl XX” and “Super Bowl XXX.” (As if to complete the effect, the DVD of the highlight reel for Super Bowl XXX looks like the world’s most generic porn movie, with a simple “XXX” printed on a seedy red disc.) To this day, a search for “super bowl xxx” on many search engines will yield an “adult content” warning.

In the wake of 2015’s “deflate-gate” controversy, we have to wonder – has the word “balls” ever previously been such an omnipresent part of the public discourse? While we maintain the pretense of being mature adults, we dare you not to giggle at the YouTube mashups of prominent NFL personalities saying “balls” over and over again.

Christiana Cinn recounts an interesting tale about her encounter with a football player during a cam show:
