Dana Vespoli Contemplates the Rise of Family Roleplay

Family roleplay porn is a genre with which Dana Vespoli  has a deep familiarity, at least in a filmmaking sense. She has directed nearly two dozen such movies, ranging from My Evil Stepmom Fucked My Ass for Evil Angel to the Lesbian Stepsisters series for Sweetheart Video. But even she isn’t entirely sure what the one single reason is for the upsurge in popularity of the genre, which has become one of Adult Empire’s bestselling categories over the last several years. She discussed family roleplay and much more in a new interview with XBIZ.

One possible explanation is that family roleplay is one of the last sexual taboos that hadn’t been fully exposed and explored by porn. “I wonder if people just need an outlet where they can be bad,” she said. “It’s possible they want a person that can never really leave them. That’s one of the things that I think about. I would be interested to know if this blowup of ‘fauxcest’ porn coincides with this over-saturation of devices and people being disconnected.”

Naturally, just because family roleplay has become recently popular doesn’t mean it was an invention of the last few years. “Fauxcest has always been a thing,” she said, “but it blew-the-fuck-up around the time people started tuning out and tuning in to these devices. I don’t think most of these people actually want to fuck their moms or dads. But maybe they want to fuck a mother figure or a father figure or a sibling that has their back. I think it might actually be sweeter than we think it is. We don’t work in literal terms in this industry; we work in figurative terms. I think that might be what it is.”
