Slate Calculator Tells You How Your Sex Life Stacks Up

If you’re going through a bit of a dry spell — whether it’s two weeks, two months or two years — it can often seem like everyone else you know must be having more sex than you do. But is that actually true? The folks at Slate have worked up a handy-dandy calculator to determine exactly that! Plug in your age and your number of sexual encounters in the last year, and Slate will tell you how you compare. Try it out here!

Just for fun, we tried plugging in stats that would correspond to your typical pornstar. According to Jon Millward’s pornstar study, the average age of a female performer on entering the business is 22, so we used that as the age. We then picked the maximum setting for frequency of sex (a fair bet for any busy and popular pornstar). The results proclaimed that “You had sex more frequently than 93% of respondents.” All well and good, but we have to wonder — what energetic bunch make up the 7% of people who have more sex than your typical pornstar? (Maybe Wilt Chamberlain took the test and threw off the averages.) Slate is quick to emphasize that frequency of sex is not something that should really matter and also relates the research to recent press about the decline in sexual activity. “Don’t despair if you have sex more or less frequently than your peers. It doesn’t matter, and things could change. You could stumble into true love; you could stumble into true sex,” Slate notes in almost Yoda-like fashion.
