Remy LaCroix Officially Quits the Business

When Sean Connery quit the role of James Bond in 1971, he said he’d never return to the world of 007. While he did come back for a last turn 12 years later, in the appropriately titled Never Say Never Again, his second retirement was permanent. Similarly, pornstar Remy LaCroix first swore off the adult industry in 2012, before returning for an extended curtain call that turned her into one of the top XXX stars. All good things come to an end, though, with LaCroix announcing her formal retirement from the business in a New Year’s Eve post on her official blog. She also revealed via Twitter that she is pregnant, a factor that seems likely to have played a role in her decision:

LaCroix’s withdrawal from the industry occurred in increments, first with a reduced shooting schedule, then with appearances only via SnapChat and social media, and finally with Saturday’s announcement of a full retirement from adult. A May 2016 blog post indicated that she was angling toward a new career in emergency medical services.

Joining the industry in 2012, LaCroix was one of the poster children for porn’s new enthusiasm for the all-natural look. The petite, sweet appearance that became Remy’s signature was as far afield from the stereotyped pornstar image of a busty, cosmetically enhanced blonde as it is possible to imagine. She found instant success as a performer, winning 2013’s AVN Best New Starlet award.

Her first flirtation with retirement came in May 2012, when she stepped away from shooting for several months. “I’m gracefully backing out of porn. There’s a multitude of reasons to give now, but the bottom line is that it just doesn’t feel right anymore… physically, mentally, or emotionally,” LaCroix said at the time. By January 2013, she was back and entered her most fruitful creative period as a performer, shooting such memorable efforts as Remy LaCroix 2 for Elegant Angel and The Temptation of Eve for New Sensations. (Eve netted her a best actress nomination at the 2014 AVN ceremonies, a feat she duplicated with Stockholm Syndrome the following year.)

Remy pegged her appeal and success to one word: confidence. “[Confidence is] everything when you are naked and vulnerable, out there for the world to see,” she told Fleshbot in a 2015 interview. “I also don’t ever watch my scenes. I feel like that would make me all too aware of the aesthetics of the scene vs the genuineness of the content.”
