Happy Blu Year!

The Best In Adult Blu-rays (Part Two)

Is there any sweeter sound than Ashlyn Rae moaning in ecstacy as she gets her pussy licked in This Ain’t I Dream Of Jeannie XXX?  Or Jenna Haze squealing with delight when pounded by Mr. Marcus in Jenna Haze Dark Side?

Then allow me to continue extolling the virtues of blue movies on Blu-ray, focusing on a topic which is rarely discussed among fans, namely, the audio.  While not quite up to Hollywood blockbuster standards, today’s adult productions have made great strides in making their movies sound better and sexier, so that Tory Lane’s dirty talk from Ass Worship 9 is more intelligible and Sasha Grey’s screams of passion from Throat: A Cautionary Tale are more dynamic.

Back in the day when VCRs ruled the world, it was quite frustrating to see Ashlyn Gere bumping and grinding, while her distinctively breathy yelps and gasps competed for your aural attention along side a mish-mash of “boom-chicka-wah-wah” music scores and other distracting overdubs.  To make matters even worse, the soundtrack was often buried under the unmistakable hiss and distortion of analog tape, with fidelity as limited as your worst AM reception.  If phone sex has taught us anything (and I’ve certainly learned a lot), it’s that the sounds of sex can be just as important as what we see with our eyes.

Fortunately, digital technology has eliminated a great deal of the artifacts and limitations normally associated with analog recordings.  Today’s porn productions sound cleaner and clearer than anything ever produced in the eighties and seventies (assuming the performers are properly miked, of course), and many of the bigger-budgeted features like This Ain’t The Expendables XXX In 3DBabysittersMy First Porn 3 and Predator II: The Return have incorporated Dolby Digital surround soundtracks on their DVDs, while other titles have adopted DTS (Digital Theater Systems).  Of course, whether one technology sounds better than the other is an argument best left to audiophiles.  Still, when it comes to Blu-ray, most audio tracks may even sound distinctly better than their DVDs counterparts overall, thanks to higher bit rates transfers which are easily accommodated by the extra storage space.  With all the technical benefits (especially when it comes to picture quality as discussed in the previous “Blu Christmas” blog), it’s hard to imagine how one could “lose” investing in the Blu-ray version of their favorite DVD title.
