Best of the Sale: Classic Porn Videos
A classic needs to stand the test of time, contain some interesting stylistic flourishes, and in general capture a particular mood and moment so well that it still commands audience attention long after its release. Anyone who came of age when these movies were in their prime will find them to be an engaging memory of some of their first glimpses of adult entertainment, and anyone who is experiencing them for the first time is in for a retro treat. Movies from the Adult Empire’s classic VOD category are on sale for a limited time (ends 4/20)! Check out some of the highlights:
Debbie Does Dallas (1978)
Debbie Does Dallas is a classic fantasy brought vividly to life. After all, who hasn’t seen a beautiful NFL cheerleader and allowed his or her mind to imagine what it might be like to hook up with her? As in most porn movies of this era, Debbie Does Dallas has plenty of plot, chronicling the efforts of the title character (Bambi Woods) to make the cheer team for Dallas’s big-league football team (the Dallas Cowboys in everything but name, in the same year they won the Super Bowl and were dubbed America’s Team). This particular VCX edition has been remastered, making it a substantial upgrade from the shoddy VHS copy that may have been your first run-in with the movie. And like many great porn classics, there’s a great behind-the-scenes story, too, including the mystery of what happened to star Bambi Woods (read more here).

The Opening of Misty Beethoven (1975)
There was a time in the uncertain ’70s when many observers thought that adult movies would one day be as commonplace and culturally accepted as the mainstream blockbusters we see in cinemas today. Unfortunately for porn fans, this broad acceptance never fully materialized, but the heady ’70s still yielded some of porn’s most ambitious and famous movies. Case in point? The Opening of Misty Beethoven, an erotic version of George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion (the same source material that inspired My Fair Lady), starring Gloria Leonard and directed by Radley Metzger. “Whenever anyone asks me to define ‘quality’ erotic cinema, Radley Metzger is always my first reference. The way his films combine explicit sexuality with an entertaining story, engaging performances and beautiful photography is nothing short of astonishing,” said Cinekink’s Lisa Vandever when the movie was screened theatrically in 2013. While it may not have the same wide name recognition as Debbie Does Dallas or Deep Throat, The Opening of Misty Beethoven still maintains a safe place in the pantheon of great porn classics. This particular incarnation was remastered for enhanced picture quality.

Taboo (1980)
If you enjoy the recent flowering of the family roleplay genre, go all the way back to the matriarch of the category, Taboo! While most current movies that delve into twisted family hookup scenarios soften the edge by making the characters step-relations only, Taboo fearlessly waltzes straight into a mother-son relationship with a plot that remains shocking even today. Kay Parker plays a mother who finds herself lusting after her son when the two of them are suddenly left to fend for themselves. (Of course, the actors themselves were not related.) Taboo inspired a line of sequels and a legion of imitators attempting to duplicate its splendidly fractured, perverse tone.

Starship Eros (1979)
It’s sad to see erotic classics go without the proper restoration and remastering that so many of their mainstreams counterparts receive. Vinegar Syndrome has stepped in to redress this imbalance, offering beautiful new transfers of many retro porn faves, including this 1979 spoof from the era of the original Star Wars and Star Trek movies. It contains plenty of zany, sexy moments that you could only possibly find in a movie of its time! In one goofy set piece, a space cadet is given an intergalactic punishment that involves a ray gun being blasted alternately at her nipples and clitoris. Her moans of pleasure indicate that maybe it isn’t that bad of a punishment, after all. (Read more about Vinegar Syndrome here.)
