Five Memorable Aussie Pornstars for Australia Day

Kangaroos, Crocodile Dundee, “a dingo ate my baby,” the Sydney opera house, koalas and . . . pornstars? There’s a long list of things people associate with the land of magic and mystery that is Australia, but porn isn’t necessarily one of them. Interestingly, the continent actually has plenty of associations with adult entertainment, ranging from the Australians on Porn television series to the Melbourne-based Beautiful Agony to the origins of the popular label Abbywinters. The country has also introduced the world to some memorable pornstars. In honor of Australia Day (celebrated January 26 to commemorate the arrival of the British to the country in 1788), we offer a rundown of five notable past and present adult performers from Down Under!

5. Sally Charles

We know what you’re thinking! “Who’s Sally Charles?” Nevertheless, if you are a power user of Adult Empire’s website and find yourself frequently consulting its DVD bestseller list, you’ve seen Sally Charles week in and week out for several years! She’s the brunette who appears on the cover of Threesome Fantasies Fulfilled, which has been an unflagging presence on AE’s top DVD lists ever since it debuted in 2013. She jump-started her career in 2011 by making the very long trip to Porn Valley: “I watched a lot of porn, the lifestyle in L.A. appealed to me so when I turned 18 and saved enough money from working I flew over for my first job!” she told Bare List in 2012. Though retired since 2015, the Sydney native Charles owns a little piece of porn history thanks to her association with Threesome Fantasies.

4. Ashley Winters

When it’s summer in the United States, it’s winter in Australia . . . Ashley Winters, that is. In porn, it pays to have a good eye for faces and an ability to keep same-name performers straight. Ashley Winters shares a nom de porn with two other adult actors: a ’90s era blonde and a West Coast Productions vet from the mid-2000s. This particular Ashley was born in Australia in 1976 and had her heyday in porn starting in 2010, appearing as a solo cover model for Lethal Hardcore and Black Market before disappearing from the scene in 2013.

3. Monica Mayhem

Australia started out as a penal colony, so it only seems appropriate that it provided porn with a little “Mayhem.” Monica came to the United States from her native Brisbane in 2000, shooting some 400 adult movies in a career that lasted over a decade. Something that always puzzled her about porn in American? The obsession with interracial movies. “The one thing I was shocked about when I got in the industry, along with every other Aussie I’ve told, is the term ‘inter-racial‘, I asked what it meant and why they called it that. I was completely shocked and thought that was racist. I realize now that it’s not racist, it’s just each individuals preference as to which ethnicity they will and won’t work with,” she told XCritic.

2. Gigi Allens

“I grew up in Australia. I was a pretty good girl most of the time with some naughty streaks which led me to working in a dungeon.” Well, that pretty much sums it up, doesn’t it? That’s how Gigi described her entry into porn to Adult DVD Talk, and she hasn’t looked back! Born in Sydney, Gigi first turned heads as a memorable supporting player in Nina Hartley: Unscripted. She’s known as a fearless and bold performer, willing to appear in scenes with a variety of envelope-pushing themes. She even has an unusual skill! “I love spit. I have the best aim,” she told ADT. “When my scenes come out, you will see how good my aim is.” Crikey!

1. Angela White

Angela White

There’s only one star who could be at the top of this list. She’s undoubtedly Australia’s most famous ever porn export, and she’s inaugurated a whole new phase of her career with her recent move to the United States. Nevertheless, her movies for Angela White Entertainment are still her definitive on-screen work, dominated by their memorable minimalist style and imbued with Angela’s unwavering sexual charisma. An honors graduate of genders studies at the University of Melbourne, White does have mixed feelings about porn’s seedier aspects but also sees adult entertainment as a positive influence in many ways. “I do feel that pornography has the ability to transgress and subvert many stereotypes. It’s one of the only forms of media that celebrates diverse body types; particularly in niche, alternative, sex-positive and queer pornography,” she said in a Fleshbot interview.
