Dallas Steele: From Fox News to Porn

Ever find yourself drooling over that cute girl (or dude) who does the local TV weather report? If your newscaster crush follows the career path of Dallas Steele, you might end up seeing them in a context where temperatures are definitely going up, and not just because of the latest heatwave. Steele (real name: Jim Walker) decided to set aside his successful career as a Fox News broadcaster and turn to the world of gay porn.

Steele’s square jaw and toned physique made him an ideally telegenic figure for TV news, and those same characteristics have served him equally well in porn. He changed careers because he did not like the splashy style so common to most of the major cable TV networks. “You know, I loved telling news, I loved breaking news and I loved telling good stories,” Steele told the New York Post. “But I didn’t like the continuous bullshit that management put you through and the constant pressure to sensationalize and exaggerate what was really true just to boost ratings.” Steele has carried that philosophy over into his porn career — he describes himself in his Twitter bio as “Classy, not trashy” and proudly mentions his previous career. Currently a TitanMen exclusive performer, Steele has appeared in popular titles such as Rent and Cauke for President.

Interestingly, Steele does not see porn as the final phase in his professional career. “It’s not a career, no one considers it a career,” Steele said. “It’s a stopover for maybe a few years and then I’ll consider my third act in life.” (In a statement that runs contrary to the idea that porn can be followed by another phase, Seth Gamble once famously described being in porn as a “life sentence.”)

For Steele, changing careers was exactly the tonic he needed, and he has advised others to try to do the same, even if it doesn’t necessarily mean a change as radical as the adult industry. “My story is not about porn,” he said. “My story is about getting out of an environment that’s toxic to you. Whether it’s long-term or temporary, it’s about getting yourself to a place where going to work every day doesn’t make you want to kill yourself.”
