Does Sex Cure Headaches?

If you or your lover sometimes aren’t in the mood because of headaches, boy, have we got news for both of you! According to OB-GYN Dr. Laura Streicher, a little naughty fun in the bedroom might be just as effective a cure to those head pains as more traditional treatments like medication. Sounds much better than a bottle of aspirin to us!

The mere distraction of sexual activity helps take the mind off the pain, but Streicher states that the sex-for-headache cure goes beyond a simple psychological effect. “We know that when people have sex, they release endorphins, and endorphins can help decrease pain,” Streicher told Own TV. “And in fact, there was one study out of Southern Illinois University that showed that women suffering from migraine headaches who had sex had a 50 percent decrease in their headache [ . . . ] I think we have both things at play here. I think the endorphins that are released might decrease the pain, and distraction is always a good thing.”

She also noted that sex obviously could not necessarily put a dent in extreme headaches, which likely still would require medication of some sort in most cases.

So, the next time your head begins to thump, tap your partner on the shoulder, head to the bedroom, and get to work on a “home remedy” cure that anyone would be eager to test out.
