Porn-Themed Sitcom Coming to Canadian TV

Don’t touch that dial! Adult entertainment on television has typically been relegated to late-night pay cable slots, but filmmaker Kevin Smith is about to change that. The director of Clerks, Chasing Amy and Mallrats has struck a deal with Canada’s The Movie Network to create several TV series, including one that will delve into the wild word of porn. The series is tentatively entitled Prons.

“Prons,” said the Hollywood Reporter, “is part of an extensive development slate at The Movie Network, which includes another comedy, Method, from Saving Hope producers Ilana Frank, David Wellington and Sonia Hosko.”

The proposed show will concern a former pornstar who tries to leave the business by returning to his hometown of Brantford, Ontario. Further details on the plot were not provided, but we can only assume that his porn past follows him to Great White North. Ribald puns involving the word “canuck” can’t be far behind either!

“We’ve teamed up [ . . . ] to tell the story of a different kind of homecoming,” Smith said in an article that appeared on the CBC website.

Smith is no stranger to adult-gone-mainstream material, having directed the similarly themed Zack and Miri Make A Porno. Even with the slight remove of a Canadian setting, Prons promises to allow Smith to push the envelop even further with a fully developed TV arc dedicated to the never-a-dull-moment workings of the adult industry.
