Perfect rhythm: Playboy partners with Pitbull

Sex and music. Whether it’s Elvis’s swinging hips, Miley Cyrus’s latest provocative music video, John Barry’s lustful saxophone, or Tchaikovsky’s warm blush of strings, it’s a combination that has packed a potent punch for centuries. Few artforms are able to capture the essence of passion better. Playboy Enterprises, whose properties have always had an uncanny knack for bringing out the sexy side of literature and the arts in general, has given this classic combination a modern new twist by entering into a strategic partnership with superstar recording artist Pitbull.

Leading off the new enterprise is Pitbull’s music video “Wild Wild Love,” which was shot at the Playboy Mansion in Holmy Hills, California and draws much of its raunchy vibe from that indelible milieu. Coming tie-ins will feature across the entire sphere of Playboy’s many properties, from its iconic magazine to its numerous digital ventures and will include appearances and performances by Pitbull at Playboy events.

“We’re bringing new energy and enthusiasm to the iconic Playboy brand in our 60th year,” said Playboy CEO Scott Flanders in a press release. “Throughout our history we’ve collaborated with artists and cultural tastemakers who both embody the Playboy lifestyle and interpret it in their own images. Today we’re taking a big step in re-interpreting our enduring brand for a new generation by welcoming Armando into the fold. His magnetic energy, charisma and style combined with his clear talent as an entrepreneur exemplify the aspirational lifestyle that defines our brand. We’re looking forward to doing some great things together.”

“In order to become an iconic brand you have to partner up with one. What’s more iconic than Playboy?” said Pitbull (aka Armando Christian Pérez). “It’s an honor to partner with Playboy Enterprises.”

Playboy is known for its ability to find exactly the right properties to tie in with its unique brand. It was the magazine to see the electric potential in the James Bond franchise (publishing Ian Fleming’s 007 stories long before they became a worldwide phenomenon), the lightning-rod possibilities of incisive print interviews (remember Jimmy Carter’s famous comment about committing adultery many times in his mind?), and the dynamic appeal of selling a smart, sophisticated, sex-positive lifestyle, to name only a few. Playboy’s partnership with Pitbull promises to capture that same synergy.

After all, nothing matches passion quite like the rhythm of the perfect song . . .
